Product Overview
The IronRidge BX Top Clamp (BX-TCL-40MM-M1) presses down on the top edge of a solar module frame on an IronRidge BX ballasted chassis. This version is sized for modules with a 40 mm frame height.
It works together with the BX bottom clamp, which holds the module from below. IronRidge says the pair grips the module from above and below, for a strong connection whatever direction the force comes from.
IronRidge makes top clamps in several frame heights because the clamp must match the module frame. The bottom clamp is the same for every height.
Best For
- BX arrays with 40 mm module frames: Measure your module frame height (or check its datasheet) and match the clamp.
- Every clamped module corner: IronRidge's manual places a bottom clamp and top clamp at each corner bolt position that holds a module.

What You May Also Need
Usually required
- A BX bottom clamp: One BX-BCL-M1 bottom clamp per top clamp.
- BX chassis: The 5° chassis or 10° chassis.
- A torque wrench and 1/2" socket: Listed in IronRidge's BX manual.
May be required
Optional upgrades
- Bonding parts: 8" module bonding jumpers and a PV module grounding lug.
Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- Match the frame height. A 40 mm clamp is for 40 mm module frames only.
- Tighten last. IronRidge says to tighten and torque top clamps once modules are in their final position, and to check every clamp before the next row.
- Wires. IronRidge says to make sure clamps do not pinch any wires.
- Flange nut. IronRidge's manual fastens each top and bottom clamp set with a 1/2" flange nut on the chassis corner bolt. Its documents do not say which BX part includes the nut.
- Check your module. IronRidge's BX manual lists the modules tested or evaluated with BX, by maker, model and frame height. BX modules are installed in landscape orientation, per the manual.
- Engineering and permits. IronRidge says actual structural capacities are defined by PE-stamped certification letters. Use IronRidge's Design Assistant for the layout and ballast plan, and install under local codes.
