Product Overview
The IronRidge 8" Module Bonding Jumper (BX-MB8-M1) electrically connects the metal frames of two neighboring modules on an IronRidge BX ballasted array. BX chassis are made of a glass-reinforced polymer, not metal, and IronRidge bonds the module frames to each other with these jumpers.
IronRidge makes the jumper from tin-plated copper wire with factory-crimped ends. It presses onto the bottom flange of each module.
Bonding ties the metal parts together so a fault current has a path to ground through the array's grounding lug and grounding wire.
Best For
- Module-to-module bonding on BX: IronRidge's manual says to install 8" Module Bonding Jumpers between all modules along the rows.
- Replacing a removed jumper: IronRidge says jumpers are single use, so a new one is needed if one comes off.

- A grounding lug: IronRidge requires one PV module grounding lug (PV-LUG-01-A1) per continuous array.
- 38" Row Bonding Jumpers: IronRidge uses BX-RB38-M1 jumpers to bond each row to the next.
- Enough 8" jumpers: One between each pair of neighboring modules along each row.
May be required
- BX chassis and clamps: 5° chassis, 10° chassis and the BX bottom clamp.

Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- Flange thickness. IronRidge lists 1.2 to 3.1 mm. Check your module frame.
- Servicing. IronRidge warns that removing a module may break the bonding path. Install a bonding jumper between the modules on each side of the gap.
- Copper and aluminum. IronRidge says bare copper grounding wire must not touch aluminum or zinc-plated steel parts, to prevent galvanic corrosion.
- Electrical work. IronRidge says electrical installation should be done by a licensed electrician or solar contractor, following NEC 250 and NEC 690.
