Which backup switch fits your system

Tesla Backup Switch (Meter Collar), 1624171-00-X. Installs in the meter socket between the utility meter and the meter base. A contactor inside the collar controls the home's connection to the grid so Powerwall can island the house during an outage, and a built-in consumption meter monitors home energy use. It is intended only for Tesla Powerwall system designs that specify it.

Enphase IQ Meter Collar Adapter, MC-200-011-V01. A meter-socket adapter that enables whole-home backup with the Enphase Energy System without building a separate backup subpanel or rewiring individual loads. It installs between the meter socket and the utility meter and works with IQ System Controller–based systems per Enphase's guides.

GoodWe ABD Automatic Backup Device, ABD11K4-12-00P. When the grid fails, the ABD switches designated loads to inverter and battery backup power, and it returns them to utility power when the grid comes back. GoodWe documents ABD use with its ES-US / SBP-US hybrid families; confirm the pairing and ratings for this model against current GoodWe documentation.

Important considerations

  • Each device is built for its own ecosystem. Don't assume a Tesla, Enphase, or GoodWe backup switch works with another brand's battery or inverter.
