Product Overview
The IronRidge BX Bottom Clamp (BX-BCL-M1) holds the lower edge of a solar module frame on an IronRidge BX ballasted chassis. A BX top clamp then presses down from above.
IronRidge says the top and bottom clamps together grip the module from above and below, for a strong connection whatever direction the force comes from.
IronRidge makes one bottom clamp for all frame heights. Only the top clamp changes with frame height, and IronRidge says bottom clamps must always be used with top clamps.
Best For
- IronRidge BX flat-roof arrays: Each module corner on a BX chassis uses a bottom clamp and a top clamp, per IronRidge's manual.
- Any BX top-clamp size: The bottom clamp is the same for every module frame height.

What You May Also Need
Usually required
- A BX top clamp for your frame height: AltE lists 30mm, 32mm, 35mm and 40mm top clamps.
- BX chassis: The 5° chassis or 10° chassis.
May be required
- Bonding parts: 8" module bonding jumpers and a PV module grounding lug.
Optional upgrades
- Other mounting parts: See solar panel mounts.
Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- Fully engaged. IronRidge says alignment fins on the chassis sit flush with the module when the bottom clamp is fully engaged. Check every clamp before starting the next row.
- Wires. IronRidge says to make sure the clamps do not pinch any wires.
- BX only. This clamp is part of the BX ballasted system. It is not a rail clamp.
- Flange nut. IronRidge's manual fastens each top and bottom clamp set with a 1/2" flange nut on the chassis corner bolt. Its documents do not say which BX part includes the nut.
- Check your module. IronRidge's BX manual lists the modules tested or evaluated with BX, by maker, model and frame height. BX modules are installed in landscape orientation, per the manual.
- Engineering and permits. IronRidge says actual structural capacities are defined by PE-stamped certification letters. Use IronRidge's Design Assistant for the layout and ballast plan, and install under local codes.
