Product Overview
The Enphase IQ Battery 5P (ordering SKU IQBATTERY-5P-1P-NA) is a home battery that stores 5.0 kWh of usable energy. It is built for homes with an Enphase IQ solar system. Inside are lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells plus six small built-in inverters (Enphase IQ8D-BAT microinverters), so the battery connects to the home's AC wiring instead of to a separate battery inverter. This is called an AC-coupled battery.
The 5P can deliver up to 3.84 kVA of continuous power at 240 V, which is about 16 amps. Enphase's operating modes include backup power during outages, self-consumption (using more of your own solar power) and time-of-use (TOU) savings, where the battery covers your home's use when electricity rates are highest.
The battery does not provide backup by itself. Enphase's datasheet lists the IQ System Controller 3/3G, IQ Combiner 5/5C and IQ Gateway as the system equipment used with the 5P for grid-tied and backup operation.
Best For
- Home backup on Enphase IQ systems: Keep essential circuits running during a utility outage when the battery is installed as part of a complete Enphase backup system at 240 V.
- Getting more out of your solar: Store extra daytime solar power and use it in the evening instead of sending it to the grid.
- Time-of-use rate plans: Use stored energy during high-price hours. Enphase lists TOU as one of the battery's operating modes.
- Systems that may grow later: Each 5P adds 5.0 kWh and up to 3.84 kVA of continuous power, so storage can be sized in steps. Follow Enphase's system design rules for the number of units.
- Garage or outdoor installs: The battery has an outdoor NEMA 3R enclosure and cools itself without fans.

What You May Also Need
Usually required
- Enphase IQ Microinverter solar system: Enphase's datasheet lists the 5P for use with IQ and M Series Microinverters. If you are building a new system, choose single-phase Enphase IQ Microinverters selected for your system.
- Enphase IQ Combiner 5: Enphase lists the IQ Combiner 5/5C for use with the 5P. A combiner is the box where the solar and battery circuits come together.
- Branch circuit wiring and breaker: Each 5P needs its own 20 A branch circuit. See disconnects and breakers and cable and wiring. Wire sizes and breakers must follow electrical code and Enphase's installation guide.
May be required
- Enphase IQ System Controller 3 or IQ System Controller 3G: Needed for backup power. Enphase lists the IQ System Controller 3/3G for use with the 5P. The 3G version adds generator support.
- More IQ Battery 5P units: To store more energy or deliver more power. Add more 5P units following Enphase's system design rules.
Optional upgrades
- Pedestal mount: Enphase sells a separate IQ Battery 5P pedestal (B05-PI-0550-O) for floor mounting. A wall bracket is already in the box.
Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- Backup needs the full Enphase system. The battery alone does not switch your home to backup. Enphase lists the IQ System Controller 3/3G, IQ Combiner 5/5C and IQ Gateway for grid-tied and backup operation.
- No backup at 208 V. At 208 V single-phase, the 5P works only while the grid is up. Enphase says backup/off-grid operation is not supported at 208 V.
- Don't mix with the IQ Battery 10C. The 10C uses a different setup (IQ Combiner 6C and IQ Meter Collar). Enphase's IQ Battery 10C system-planning guide (June 2026) says the 10C is not compatible with the IQ Battery 5P. Enphase says 5P compatibility is planned for the future. Check Enphase's current documents before combining batteries.
- Location. Enphase says to choose a non-habitable indoor space (such as a garage) or an outdoor spot within −4°F to 131°F and 5–95% humidity, non-condensing. Avoid direct sunlight. Charging slows outside 59°F to 113°F, and discharging slows outside 32°F to 122°F.
- Heavy. The battery weighs 146.1 lb to lift and 174 lb installed. The wall must be able to hold that weight, or use a pedestal.
- Installation and permits. Install to electrical code, local rules and Enphase's quick install guide. Battery systems usually need a permit and an inspection by your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), the local office that enforces code.
