Limits to know before you choose
- The SUNON inverters are indoor-only (IP20) off-grid inverters. This bundle does not promise utility export, battery-free operation, a guaranteed runtime or whole-home coverage.
- One Lithi2-16 is rated 7 kW (10 kW maximum under suitable conditions), below the SUNON7.2's 7.2 kW rating, so full inverter output from one battery is not promised.
- Battery-side usable energy is not energy delivered to appliances, and a reserve you choose reduces what you can use.
- The array layout is preliminary. String sizing for your site, lowest temperature and the exact module revision need review before you buy racking or wiring.
Who it suits and which loads to check
A small off-grid building where you want panels, inverter and battery from one order and will design the array layout.
List the loads you want to power, then check them against the inverter’s published rating and the battery’s power limits before ordering. In particular check:
- Continuous and starting (surge) power of motor loads such as air conditioners, well pumps and compressors.
- Load on each 120 V leg of a split-phase service, not only the total.
- Daily energy use in kWh, compared with usable battery energy after the reserve you choose.
- Your solar and charging sources, and how the system is charged when the sun is not enough.

Nominal energy is the battery’s rated size. Usable energy is what the manufacturer says can be drawn under its test conditions, measured inside the battery. Energy delivered to appliances is lower. These are different numbers and altE does not substitute one for another. Rated inverter power is a continuous output rating; what the system can actually supply depends on the inverter, battery, voltage, temperature and configuration.

Electrical and power
Manufacturer-documentedThe SUNON7.2 battery range is 40 to 60 Vdc (48 V rated); the Lithi2-16 is 51.2 V nominal. Current, protection and wiring limits follow the RUiXU manuals. One Lithi2-16 is rated 7 kW (10 kW maximum under suitable conditions), which is below the SUNON7.2's 7.2 kW rating, so full inverter output from one battery is not promised. Ten panels in series are about 385 V open-circuit at 25 C and about 429 V at -20 C (calculated from the published Voc and its -0.25 %/C coefficient), under the inverter's 500 V limit; about 321 V at maximum power under standard test conditions, inside its 90 to 450 V MPPT range. One string of ten is 4,400 W at standard test conditions and fits one solar input (up to 4,500 W per input on the SUNON7.2). The input current is listed as 16 A per input; the panel sheet shows 15.77 A at maximum power with 15% rear-side gain and 16.59 A short-circuit, so a strong rear-gain case is close to that limit and needs the manufacturer's confirmation. These are altE calculations from published figures, not an array design. Your lowest site temperature, the exact module revision and the manufacturers' string-sizing rules decide.

Communications
Manufacturer-documentedRUiXU's Lithi2-16 manual (V2.1) lists the SUNON7.2 among its UL 1741 inverter models for the RUiXU battery setting. The table's layout is hard to read, and altE has not had RUiXU confirm the exact inverter setting or a minimum firmware version.

Physical connection and fit

System certification
Open: to be specifiedRUiXU's page lists UL 1741 for the SUNON7.2; altE has not read the certificate. No certificate naming this inverter and battery together has been established. Check the listing your installation requires. UL 9540A is a fire-test method. It is not a system certification, and it does not by itself cover an arbitrary inverter and battery combination. The rapid shutdown arrangement for the array is also not established.
Installation requirements
- Electrical installation must follow the manufacturers' manuals and local code, and be done or reviewed by qualified personnel.
- The SUNON inverters are rated IP20 for indoor use only. Plan an indoor, dry location with the clearances in the manual.
- You will need AC conductors and breakers, disconnects, grounding and bonding, labels, anchors and a load-panel design for your site. None of these is in the bundle.
- Motor starting, air conditioning, well pumps, per-leg loads and any generator connection need to be checked against the exact inverter before you rely on this bundle for them.
- Fix each Lithi2-16 battery as the manual describes, and keep the clearances it lists.
- For the solar array you will also need racking, string wiring with matched connectors, DC disconnect and protection, and a rapid shutdown arrangement where code requires one.
