Product Overview

The Tesla Universal Wall Connector is a hardwired Level 2 EV charger for home or site charging. This listing is the 24 ft (7.3 m) cable version identified by Tesla part number family 1734412-XX-X (this SKU: 1734412-02-X). It delivers up to 48 amps on a 240 V circuit (about 11.5 kW), and the installer can set a lower output to match a smaller breaker.

The charge handle is NACS (Tesla's North American Charging Standard). The unit also includes a J1772 adapter so vehicles with a J1772 inlet can use the same charger. Tesla rates the enclosure for indoor or outdoor use (Type 3R / IP54). Wi-Fi supports setup, over-the-air updates, and optional power-management features.

This is EV supply equipment (EVSE). It does not replace a home electrical panel upgrade when one is required, and it must be installed by a qualified electrician per Tesla's installation manual and local electrical code.

Best For

  • Homes that want overnight Level 2 charging: On a 60 A double-pole breaker at 240 V, max output is 48 A / 11.5 kW. Lower breaker sizes (15–50 A) are supported with matching lower output, per Tesla's commissioning table.
  • Sites with Tesla and non-Tesla EVs: Tesla documents a NACS handle plus an included J1772 adapter for vehicles that use a J1772 charge port.
  • Indoor or outdoor wall mounting: Enclosure rating Type 3R / IP54. Install on a flat vertical surface that can support the unit's weight.
  • Multi-charger sites that share a feeder: Tesla's Group Power Management feature can link up to six Wall Connectors so they share a programmed site current limit over Wi-Fi.

What You May Also Need

Usually required

  • Qualified electrical installation: A double-pole branch breaker sized for the programmed output (up to 60 A for max power), copper branch conductors and an equipment-grounding conductor landed in the wirebox, per Tesla's manual and local code.
  • Mounting surface and fasteners: A flat vertical surface that can support the unit. Tesla supplies mounting hardware intended for the listed conditions in the install manual; alternate surfaces need Type 3R-rated hubs/washers where required to keep the outdoor rating.

May be required

  • Electrical-service capacity: Homes with limited spare amperage may need a panel or service upgrade, or a lower Wall Connector output setting / Dynamic Power Management with a Tesla-approved energy meter.
  • Additional Wall Connectors for multi-bay charging: Group Power Management supports up to six units. Each unit is sold separately.
  • Pedestal or cable organizer: Tesla notes a cable organizer (sold separately) when space is tight. Confirm current Tesla accessory part numbers before ordering.

Optional related equipment

  • Solar panels and home storage equipment: Many customers charge an EV from a home solar and storage system. Charger selection still depends on the branch circuit and vehicle inlet; solar and storage equipment is sized separately.
  • Tesla Backup Switch: A different Tesla product for Powerwall backup switching at the meter. It is not required for Wall Connector charging.

Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components. Matching a connector type or voltage does not by itself confirm that two products are supported together.

Important Considerations

  • Hardwired only. Tesla requires hardwired branch circuits to a disconnect or breaker. Do not install cord-and-plug type connections.
  • Breaker programming. Circuit breaker size is programmed during commissioning. Output must not exceed the installed breaker rating.
  • Installation height and reach. Tesla lists recommended and min/max mounting heights and a recommended installation area for the 24 ft cable so the handle reaches the vehicle without strain.
  • Powershare home backup (system feature). Tesla's Powershare System Installation Manual covers Universal Wall Connector part family 1734412-XX-X when installed with the other Powershare system equipment Tesla documents for a site (including Powershare Gateway and Backup Switch). Vehicle eligibility and site configuration also apply. This listing is the Wall Connector only; additional Powershare equipment is sold separately.
