Product Overview
The IronRidge BOSS, or Bonded Structural Splice (XR1000-BOSS-01-M1), joins two lengths of IronRidge XR1000 rail end to end. It slides inside both rails and needs no tools or extra hardware, per IronRidge.
A built-in spring with bonding teeth bites inside the rail. IronRidge says this creates a bonded rail connection. A center stop tab sets the splice halfway between the two rails.
Alignment circles on each side mark where to stop for a 1" expansion gap. IronRidge says no bonding strap is needed across a BOSS expansion joint.
Best For
- Extending IronRidge XR1000 rail runs: This splice is made for XR1000. For XR10 or XR100, use the XR10 or XR100 BOSS.
- Splices inside a span: IronRidge says BOSS may be installed in any location within a span, except the outside cantilever.
- Expansion joints: Set at the alignment circles, BOSS leaves the 1" gap IronRidge specifies, with no bonding strap.

Important Considerations
- Insert to the stop tab. IronRidge says to insert BOSS into the first rail until the stop tab, then slide the second rail fully into place.
- Clamp clearance. IronRidge says UFOs and bonding hardware must be installed 1" away from the point where two rails join.
- Match the rail. XR10, XR100 and XR1000 each use their own BOSS.
- Engineering and permits. IronRidge says actual spans and cantilevers are defined by PE-stamped certification letters. Use IronRidge's Design Assistant and install under local codes.
