Product Overview
The IronRidge QuickMount RD Structural Screw (HW-RD1430-01-M1) fastens the IronRidge Halo UltraGrip (HUG) attachment to the roof. "RD" stands for rafter-or-deck: the same screw is used for both mounting methods.
Each screw is a #14 self-drilling, wood-tip stainless steel screw, 3.00" long, with a 5/16" hex head and an EPDM-backed sealing washer. IronRidge says the screw anchors HUG to the roof with the EPDM washer completing its stack of waterproofing barriers.

- IronRidge HUG attachments: This screw has no other listed use in IronRidge's documents. See HUG, mill or HUG, black.
- A 5/16" hex socket: IronRidge lists a 5/16" hex socket with adapter, or a 5/16" × 4" power nut setter.
May be required
- Extra screws: Order spares for rafters you miss. IronRidge says screws that miss stay in place, and a deck-attached HUG needs six.
Optional upgrades
- Approved roofing sealant: IronRidge says to cover the heads of stripped screws with an approved sealant. Its HUG manual lists compatible sealants.
Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- Drive until the washer is compressed. IronRidge says to check that each EPDM washer is fully compressed.
- No pilot holes. IronRidge says HUG with the RD Structural Screw needs no pilot holes.
- Stripped screws on a deck mount. If three or more strip, IronRidge says to leave the HUG installed and add another attachment within the allowed spacing.
- Engineering and permits. Attachment spacing, rafter or deck requirements and load capacity are project-specific. Use IronRidge's design tools and stamped certification letters, and install under local building codes.
