Product Overview

The IronRidge Ground Mount Bonded Rail Connector (GM-BRC3-01-M1) fastens an IronRidge XR100 or XR1000 rail to a 3" horizontal cross pipe, and bonds the two electrically. IronRidge says each rail needs two connectors.

IronRidge Ground Mount combines XR100 or XR1000 rails with locally sourced 2" or 3" steel pipe or mechanical tubing. Vertical pipes (piers) are set in concrete or ground screws, and horizontal pipes run across their tops. The rails sit on the cross pipes, and the modules clamp to the rails.

Each connector is an aluminum bracket that bolts to the rail's side slot with 3/8" bonding bolts, plus a U-bolt that wraps around the pipe. IronRidge prints the system's product markings on the rail connectors.

Best For

  • IronRidge Ground Mounts on 3" pipe: This is the rail-to-pipe connection in the system.
  • XR100 or XR1000 rail layouts: IronRidge lists both rails for these connectors.

What You May Also Need

Usually required

  • XR100 or XR1000 rails: IronRidge Ground Mount uses these rails. See IronRidge's Design Assistant for rail size and layout.
  • Top caps and pipe: 3" top caps on each leg, with locally sourced 3" pipe or tubing.
  • Module clamps: IronRidge's Ground Mount manual uses UFO mid clamps (30–46 mm frames) with EFO end clamps (30–40 mm), UFO with Stopper Sleeves, or CAMO at the ends.

May be required

  • A grounding lug and copper grounding wire: IronRidge's manual says: "Only one Grounding Lug (Rail or Module) required per continuous subarray, regardless of subarray size." It notes an exception when frameless modules are used.
  • Diagonal braces: Where your design calls for them. See ground mounts.

Optional upgrades

Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.

Important Considerations

  • Placement. IronRidge says to center rails on the cross pipes and keep each rail connector at least flush with the pipe end.
  • Tightening. Alternate sides while tightening the U-bolt nuts to avoid warping the U-bolts, per IronRidge's manual.
  • 3" pipe only. Use the 2" connector on 2" pipe.
  • Rail spacing. IronRidge says spacing between rails should line up with the module manufacturer's requirements.
  • Check your module. IronRidge's Ground Mount manual lists the framed modules tested or evaluated with the system. Confirm yours is listed.
  • CAMO limits. If you plan to use CAMO end clamps, check IronRidge's Ground Mount manual first. It says "CAMO is not intended for installation on any island or within 3 miles from any coastline and 2 miles from saltwater bays and inlets." It adds: "CAMOs installed in these regions will not be covered by the IronRidge Product Warranty." The manual also says CAMO "has been tested or evaluated with all modules listed in the Module Compatibility section having frames within the referenced dimensions." For Canadian Solar, it says: "CAMO is only compatible with Canadian Solar modules CS1YxxxMS, CS3N-xxxMS, CS6R-xxxMS-HL and CS6W-xxxxMB-AG."
  • Engineering and permits. IronRidge says actual structural capacities are defined by PE-stamped project plans. Use IronRidge's Design Assistant and certification letters, and check local codes and soil conditions.
