Two of our favorite suppliers! Canadian Solar partnered with SolarEdge -they've integrated the SolarEdge DC Optimizer into the junction box of their module - cool! One of the biggest advantages here is labor savings - but wow, what a convenience! Residential customers looking to install a solar power system on their roof often encounter shading and multiple orientation challenges. The Canadian Solar Smart DC Module solution pre-integrates power optimizer technology with high quality solar panels to create a safe, highly flexible, economical and advantageous solution that mitigates those challenges. Labor Savings:

• No need to unpack an additional box and bring a separate piece onto the roof
• The additional steps of installing the optimizer on the rails and grounding it, are gone
• Since the cables coming out of the optimizer are MC4, then you basically just connect the Smart Modules together, just like you would standard modules

DC Optimizer Benefits:

• Higher Power Output (up to 25% more!) - the optimizer finds the optimal MPPT for every module. Also, it mitigates the effects of shading or soiling on the modules, so doesn't bring the entire array output down
• Design Flexibility - you can put more modules/string and even have uneven strings, ie. if there are multiple roof orientations. So there is no problem expanding your system down the road - ie. with a higher power class of solar panels
• System Monitoring - SolarEdge has 25 years of free panel-level monitoring with their optimizers - so you can tell which module is having production issues
• Rapid Shutdown Compliance - This requirement will be met as long as the system is installed with a SolarEdge inverter (can not currently be used with other string inverters). With this, the modules shut down to only 1V when the inverter gets disconnected. So when the grid goes down, the inverter shuts off, the modules go down the 1V, and the firefighters can safely go onto the roof

Additional Features:

• Troubleshooting - Canadian Solar has integrated a pass-through connector into the junction box, so if the optimizer fails for some reason, the module reverts to performing as a standard module. Additionally, you can install a new optimizer, if needed - no need to replace the entire module.
• Durable construction - anodized aluminum alloy frame with 3.2mm tempered glass
• 10 year product warranty on materials/workmanship and 25 year linear power output warranty. Plus added 25 year insurance coverage.
