Product Overview

The UZ Energy IG-16K-U is a 16 kWh low-voltage home battery from UZ Energy's Power Lite Plus series. It uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells and runs at 51.2 V nominal, the voltage used by "48 V" battery inverters. All 16.0 kWh are rated as usable (at 100% depth of discharge in UZ Energy's test conditions).

The battery connects to a 48 V battery inverter or hybrid inverter, which charges it from solar, the grid or a generator and turns its DC power into AC power for the home. It can charge at up to 8.2 kW and discharge at up to 10.24 kW, with a 12.8 kW peak for 15 seconds. The cabinet is rated IP65 and includes a DC breaker, fuse, battery management system (BMS) and Wi-Fi antenna. UZ Energy lists heating and a fire-extinguishing device as options.

Best For

  • Home backup: UZ Energy lists blackout and emergency backup as uses. Store energy for outages as part of a properly designed backup system with a 48 V inverter.
  • Solar-plus-storage homes: Store daytime solar power for use in the evening and at night.
  • High-use homes: UZ Energy says the 16 kWh size gives high-consumption homes a large energy reserve.
  • Growing systems: UZ Energy allows up to 64 units in parallel (1,024 kWh) and recommends no more than 16 (256 kWh).
  • Outdoor or garage installs: IP65 rated, with operation from −4°F to 131°F (−20°C to 55°C) when the battery has the heating option.

What You May Also Need

Usually required

  • Low-voltage (48 V-class) battery inverter or hybrid inverter: Turns the battery's DC power into AC power and charges the battery. For closed-loop communication over CAN or RS485, check UZ Energy's documentation for supported inverter models.
  • Battery cables: Connect the battery to the inverter. Size them for up to 200 A of discharge current and the length of the run, per code.
  • Fuse, breaker or disconnect: Overcurrent protection and a way to isolate the battery, sized to electrical code and the inverter's manual.

May be required

  • More IG-16K-U batteries: For more storage or more power. UZ Energy recommends no more than 16 in parallel.

Optional upgrades

  • Hybrid inverter: If you want one unit that handles solar charging, battery and backup together, use a low-voltage (48 V-class) hybrid inverter selected for your system.

Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.

Important Considerations

  • Cold-weather charging needs the heating option. Without heating, UZ Energy lists charging only from 32°F (0°C). Confirm whether your unit has heating before installing it somewhere that freezes.
  • Maximum discharge has conditions. The 200 A maximum applies at 70% charge or higher with cell temperature below 104°F (40°C). Size loads around the 160 A rated current.
  • Heavy. About 275.6 lb. Plan for moving and securing it.
  • Inverter settings. Set the inverter to UZ Energy's charging method (57.6 V) and the right communication protocol.
  • Installation. Install to electrical code and local rules. Battery systems usually need a permit and inspection by your local code office (AHJ).
