Product Overview
The IronRidge Top Cap (70-0200-SGA) sits on top of each vertical pipe leg in an IronRidge Ground Mount built with 2" pipe. Two U-bolts clamp the horizontal cross pipe into a groove on top of the cap.
IronRidge Ground Mount combines XR100 or XR1000 rails with locally sourced 2" or 3" steel pipe or mechanical tubing. Vertical pipes (piers) are set in concrete or ground screws, and horizontal pipes run across their tops. The top cap is the joint between each leg and the cross pipe above it.
IronRidge casts the cap from ALMAG 535 aluminum. Two set screws lock it onto the leg. IronRidge's cut sheet lists the U-bolts, washers and nuts in the kit; the pipe is not included.
Best For
- 2" pipe ground mounts: IronRidge's manual mounts a top cap on each vertical pier.
- Schedule 40 pipe or mechanical tubing: IronRidge lists torque values for both 2" Schedule 40 pipe and 2.375" × 12 ga mechanical tubing.

What You May Also Need
Usually required
- Pipe or tubing: 2" galvanized Schedule 40 pipe (ASTM A53 Grade B) or approved mechanical tubing, sourced locally, for legs and cross pipes.
- Bonded rail connectors: IronRidge uses 2" bonded rail connectors to attach and bond the XR rails to the cross pipes, two per rail.
- XR100 or XR1000 rails and module clamps: IronRidge Ground Mount uses these rails with UFO, EFO or CAMO clamps.
May be required
- Diagonal braces: Where your design calls for them. IronRidge says to install braces before the top caps. See ground mounts.
Optional upgrades
- The 3" version: See the top cap for 3" pipe.
Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- No threaded ends. IronRidge says not to install top caps on threaded pipe ends.
- Both U-bolts. IronRidge says to install both U-bolts on every top cap, alternating sides while tightening to avoid warping them.
- Joining cross pipes. IronRidge allows horizontal pipes to meet over an interior top cap with a maximum gap of 1/2". It recommends a maximum continuous cross-pipe length of 100 ft.
- 2" pipe only. Use the 3" top cap on 3" pipe.
- Pipe is not included. IronRidge Ground Mount uses installer-supplied 2" or 3" Schedule 40 steel pipe (ASTM A53 Grade B, galvanized) or approved galvanized mechanical tubing. See the pipe specifications in IronRidge's Ground Mount manual.
- CAMO limits. If you plan to use CAMO end clamps, check IronRidge's Ground Mount manual first. It says "CAMO is not intended for installation on any island or within 3 miles from any coastline and 2 miles from saltwater bays and inlets." It adds: "CAMOs installed in these regions will not be covered by the IronRidge Product Warranty." The manual also says CAMO "has been tested or evaluated with all modules listed in the Module Compatibility section having frames within the referenced dimensions." For Canadian Solar, it says: "CAMO is only compatible with Canadian Solar modules CS1YxxxMS, CS3N-xxxMS, CS6R-xxxMS-HL and CS6W-xxxxMB-AG."
- Engineering and permits. IronRidge says actual structural capacities are defined by PE-stamped project plans. Use IronRidge's Design Assistant and certification letters, and check local codes and soil conditions.
