Product Overview
The SLD Tech ST-150R-12CID2-QC is a 150 W monocrystalline solar panel with a nominal 12 V output. "Nominal 12 V" means the panel is built to charge a 12 V battery bank through a charge controller. Its working voltage (Vmp) is 17.93 V, which is higher than the battery voltage so the controller has room to charge.
This model is rated for hazardous locations. SLD's datasheet shows a CSA certification mark (file 272637) for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C and D, with temperature code T3C. Class I, Division 2 areas are places where flammable gases or vapors are not normally present but could be under abnormal conditions.
The panel has 33 monocrystalline cells. SLD describes the construction as a heavy-duty anodized aluminum frame with low-iron tempered glass. It measures about 45.3 × 26.4 × 1.4 inches and weighs 8.65 kg (19.07 lb).
Best For
- Hazardous-location sites: SLD says this CID2-rated panel is suitable for industries that are at risk of gas explosions. Use it where the area is classified Class I, Division 2 and equipment must carry that rating.
- Off-grid 12 V power for remote equipment: Charges a 12 V battery bank through a charge controller.
- Replacing or adding to an existing CID2 array: Use the same model so the panel ratings and hazardous-location rating match.
Key Features & Specifications
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Product type | Monocrystalline solar panel rated for Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations |
| Model / manufacturer part number | ST-150R-12CID2-QC |
| Rated power (STC) | 150 W. STC (Standard Test Conditions) is the lab test used to rate every panel the same way. |
| Nominal output | 12 V (for charging a 12 V battery through a charge controller) |
| Voltage / current at max power (Vmp / Imp) | 17.93 V / 8.37 A |
| Open-circuit voltage (Voc) | 21.38 V at STC. This is the panel's voltage with nothing connected. It goes up in cold weather. |
| Short-circuit current (Isc) | 8.83 A at STC |
| Temperature coefficients | Pmax −0.38%/K; Voc −0.36%/K; Isc +0.07%/K. Power drops a little as the panel heats up, and voltage rises in the cold. |

| Temperature code | T3C |
| Fire rating | Module fire performance Type 1 (US); fire resistance rating Class C (Canada) |
| PV module application class | Class A |
| Warranty | 1-year limited warranty on materials and manufacturing and a 10-year workmanship warranty (panels 100 W and up). Performance warranty: at least 90% of rated power at 10 years and at least 80% at 25 years. Source: SLD's Warranty & Policy page (last updated April 29, 2026); the datasheet also lists a 10-year product workmanship warranty and a 25-year power warranty. |
What You May Also Need
Usually required
- Solar charge controller: Sits between the panel and the battery and controls charging. Choose a controller rated for your battery voltage and for this panel's Voc and Isc. SLD's installation manual (May 31, 2023) says to multiply the panel's Isc and Voc by 1.25 when sizing connected equipment, conductors and fuses.
- Battery bank: A 12 V battery bank stores the energy for use when the sun is down. Battery chemistry and charge settings must match the controller.
- Mounting hardware: Holds the panel at the right angle. For roof or flat-roof installs, see rails, tilt legs, module clamps and roof attachments. For a pole or wall mount, choose one rated for this panel's size and weight. Choose clamps or bolts that fit this panel's 35 mm frame.
May be required
- Cables and wiring: Wire from the panel to the controller. SLD's documents for this model do not name the connector type, so check the connectors on the panel you receive before buying extension cables.
- Disconnects and breakers: Fuses or breakers between the panel, controller and battery protect the wiring and let you isolate the system for service.
- Grounding hardware: Bond the frame to ground as your electrical code and the site's hazardous-location rules require.
Optional upgrades
- Additional matching panels: More panels of the same model add charging power. SLD's installation manual (May 31, 2023) recommends no more than 3 panels in parallel. How many panels you can wire in series is limited by the panel's maximum system voltage (SLD lists 600 V / 1,000 V; size strings to 600 V), its open-circuit voltage (Voc) at your site's coldest temperature and your charge controller's input limit. Size strings per the NEC and SLD's datasheet.
- Battery monitor: Shows battery state of charge and charging current so you can see how the system is performing.
Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- The whole installation must suit the hazardous location. The panel's Class I, Division 2 rating covers the panel only. The charge controller, wiring methods, connectors, enclosures and any other equipment in the classified area must also be suitable for that location, and the installation must be approved by your local code official (AHJ).
- Check the temperature code. The panel is rated T3C. Confirm that this temperature code is acceptable for the specific gases or vapors present at your site.
- Operating temperature is −40°C to 65°C. This is the range on SLD's datasheet for this model, which is narrower than many standard panels. Check it against your site conditions.
- Mounting. SLD's installation manual (May 31, 2023) says to fasten each panel at a minimum of 6 points on the long sides of the frame, never by the short sides. Use the existing frame holes; SLD says drilling additional holes voids the warranty.
- Cold-weather voltage. Voc rises as temperature drops. When wiring panels in series, check that the total voltage at your site's coldest temperature stays under the controller's limit and the panel's 600 V maximum system voltage.
- Matching panels. SLD's manual says panels in series must have the same current rating and panels in parallel must have the same voltage rating.
- Qualified installer. SLD's manual says installation, setup, maintenance and repairs must be carried out by qualified and authorized persons.
