Product Overview
The S-5! S-5-N clamp is a non-penetrating clamp for 1" nail-strip (nail-flange) standing seam metal roofs. S-5! says it fits profiles up to 1" (25 mm) tall with a base-of-rib dimension under 0.82" (20 mm).
An N insert sits against the base of the seam, and the clamp fits over the seam and insert. Two angled T-30 Torx setscrews tighten against the insert. S-5! says the insert helps the clamp fit without damaging the panel seam.
S-5! names Taylor Metals Easy Lock, ASC Building Products Skyline Roofing, McElroy Metal Meridian and New Tech Machinery FF100 as examples. This listing is the standard S-5-N, not the S-5-N Mini.
Best For
- 1" nail-strip standing seam roofs: Including the profiles S-5! names, and roofing types with similar profiles.
- Rail-mounted solar on IronRidge XR Flush Mount: IronRidge's XR Flush Mount Installation Manual (Version 5.2) lists the S-5-N among the third-party roof attachments tested or evaluated with the XR Flush Mount system. IronRidge says to follow S-5!'s instructions for installation.
- Snow retention and other heavy-duty attachments: S-5! lists these uses for the standard S-5-N.

What You May Also Need
Usually required
- Rails and rail hardware, or other ancillaries: Attached with the included M8 bolt. See metal roof mounts.
- A screw gun and a dial-calibrated torque wrench: S-5! says not to use a clicking torque wrench for setscrew tension.
May be required
- Hand crimping tool: S-5! says seams wider than 0.82" at their widest part may need hand crimping for the clamp to fit.
- An L-foot or other rail adapter: If your rail system requires one, choose it from your rail maker's instructions.
Optional upgrades
- S-5-N 1.5 or S-5-NH 1.5: S-5! offers these for 1.5" nail-strip profiles that the S-5-N does not fit.
Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- Copper roofs excluded. S-5!'s brochure says the S-5-N suits most common metal roofing materials excluding copper.
- 1" seams only. For 1.5" nail-strip profiles, S-5! points to its S-5-N 1.5 and S-5-NH 1.5 clamps instead.
- Engage the fold. S-5! says the toe of the clamp must engage beneath the fold of the seam. Tighten the two setscrews alternately to the torque for your roof gauge.
- Moving a clamp. S-5! says clamps may be moved after initial misplacement, but it expresses no opinion on performance after removal and reinstallation.
- Engineering is your responsibility. S-5! says the user or installer is responsible for all engineering and design, including spacing. S-5! publishes load test results on its website for load-critical designs.
