Product Overview

The S-5! RibBracket mounts equipment onto common North American exposed-fastened, trapezoidal-rib metal roofs, often called R-Panel or PBR-Panel. S-5! says it fits rib profiles with a top width of 1.0" (25 mm).

It mounts on the crown of the panel, straddling the rib, and fastens into the sheeting only, so it can go anywhere along the rib. A factory-applied EPDM gasket on the base seals against the panel.

A slotted top hole takes a standard M8 bolt with an M8 hex flange nut in the top groove. S-5! names rail-mounted PV and its S-5-PV Kit among the uses.

Best For

  • R-Panel and PBR-Panel style metal roofs: S-5! describes RibBracket for specific North American trapezoidal profiles with a 1.0" rib top width.
  • Rail-mounted solar on IronRidge XR Flush Mount: IronRidge's XR Flush Mount Installation Manual (Version 5.2) lists the RibBracket among the third-party roof attachments tested or evaluated with the XR Flush Mount system. IronRidge says to follow S-5!'s instructions for installation.
  • Rail-less solar with the S-5-PV Kit: S-5! shows RibBracket with the S-5-PV Kit.

What You May Also Need

Usually required

  • Rails and rail hardware, or the S-5-PV Kit: See metal roof mounts.
  • An M8 bolt: For your rail or ancillary, through the slotted top hole into the hex flange nut.
  • A screw gun: S-5! recommends one with a depth-sensing nose piece or torque clutch to avoid stripping.

May be required

  • Fasteners or Bulb-Tite rivets: Check what ships with your order. S-5!'s current instructions and product page list four screws and an M8 nut as included, but its brochure says mounting hardware is not furnished.

Optional upgrades

  • A string line and tape measure: S-5! uses them to keep brackets in a straight line.

Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.

Important Considerations

  • Not for snow guards. S-5! says RibBracket is a sheeting-only attachment, and snow guards on these profiles should be attached to the building structure.
  • Avoid lapped ribs. S-5! says installing on a lapped rib of a trapezoidal panel is not generally recommended because of variations in lapped ribs and sealant placement. Contact S-5! if your design requires it.
  • Don't over-drive fasteners. S-5! says a slight extrusion of rubber around the washer is a good visual check. Replace an over-driven fastener with a bulb rivet or a larger-diameter fastener.
  • Engineering is your responsibility. S-5! says the user or installer is responsible for all engineering and design, including spacing. S-5! publishes load test results on its website for load-critical designs.
