Product Overview

The IronRidge Low-Profile Grounding Lug (XR-LUG-04-A1) connects a row of bonded IronRidge XR racking to the grounding conductor. It mounts in the top slot of an XR rail with a T-bolt and flange nut.

IronRidge says a single grounding lug connects an entire row of PV modules to the grounding conductor. The lay-in lug body is tin-plated aluminum.

IronRidge's manual says product markings are located on the grounding lug bolt head.

Best For

  • Pitched-roof IronRidge XR Flush Mount arrays: IronRidge's XR Flush Mount manual covers installing the rail grounding lug in the top rail slot.
  • Arrays clamped with UFO or CAMO: The manual's electrical diagram shows the lug tying these bonded clamps and rails to the copper ground wire.

Key Features & Specifications

Specification Details
Product type Rail-mounted lay-in grounding lug for IronRidge XR rails
Part number XR-LUG-04-A1 (Grounding Lug, Low Profile)
Components (per IronRidge cut sheet) Lay-in lug, tin-plated aluminum, clear matte; 1/4-28 × 0.750" hex terminal bolt, 7/16" head; 1/4-20 flange hex nut, 7/16" head; 1/4-20 custom T-bolt; hardware 300 series stainless steel
Mounting (per IronRidge manual) T-bolt in the top rail slot
Torque (per IronRidge manual) Hex nut 80 in-lbs; terminal screw 20 in-lbs
Quantity (per IronRidge manual) The grounding section says only one grounding lug (rail or module) is required per continuous subarray, regardless of size, unless modules are frameless. The electrical diagram says one per row, and that the 8" Bonding Jumper eliminates row-to-row bonding.
UL 2703 (per IronRidge manual) The XR Flush Mount system is UL 2703 listed (#5003807, #5028987, #5034990). IronRidge says the scope of evaluation includes bonding, grounding, mechanical loading and fire classification.
Warranty (per IronRidge) 25 years for products and 10 years for accessories and electrical junction boxes, from shipment. The 5-year finish warranty does not apply to mill aluminum, pre-plated steel or polymeric products. See IronRidge Limited Warranties and Disclaimer (Warranty.IronRidge.2025).

What You May Also Need

Usually required

  • A copper grounding conductor: Size it to your design. IronRidge's cut sheet and manual give different wire ranges for this lug, so confirm the range with IronRidge.
  • A torque wrench and 7/16" socket: For the hex nut.

May be required

  • Row-to-row bonding: IronRidge's manual offers an 8" Bonding Jumper as an alternative row-to-row bond.

Optional upgrades

Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.

Important Considerations

  • Galvanic contact. IronRidge says bare copper grounding wire must not contact aluminum and zinc-plated steel components.
  • Wire size. IronRidge's documents differ on this lug's conductor range (see Usually required). Confirm it before buying wire.
  • Grounding is code work. IronRidge says to provide direct-to-earth grounding per the latest NEC, including Articles 250 and 690.
