Product Overview
The Enphase IQ8P-3P (IQ8P-3P-72-E-US) is a grid-tie microinverter for small commercial buildings with 120/208 VAC (4-wire) three-phase service. One unit mounts under each solar panel and converts that panel's DC power into AC power, rated 475 VA continuous at 208 V.
This is a commercial three-phase model. It is not for 240 V split-phase homes, and Enphase's datasheet says connecting to any system voltage other than 120/208 VAC three-phase requires a transformer. Monitoring requires an Enphase IQ Gateway Commercial 2, which talks to the microinverters over the AC wiring.
Enphase lists commonly used module pairings of 380–640 W, covering 54-, 60-, 66- and 72-cell modules and their half-cell versions, so it suits the higher-power panels common on commercial roofs.
Best For
- Small commercial roofs on 120/208 V three-phase (4-wire) service: Enphase designed the IQ8P-3P for this service. It is not listed for 240 V split-phase.
- High-power panels: Enphase lists 380–640 W modules (54/108-, 60/120-, 66/132- and 72/144-cell) as commonly used pairings.
- Roofs with shade or several orientations: Each panel is converted separately, so one shaded panel does not pull down the others.

What You May Also Need
Usually required
- Enphase IQ Gateway Commercial 2: Enphase's datasheet says monitoring requires this gateway. The residential IQ Gateway is a different product.
- Enphase three-phase IQ Cable: Connects the microinverters on each three-phase branch. Choose the cable from Enphase's commercial design documents for this microinverter.
- Disconnects and breakers: Each three-phase branch needs a 20 A (maximum) breaker, and most commercial systems also need an AC disconnect.
May be required
- PV cables: Panel leads must reach the supplied EN4-to-MC4 adapter cables. Check the connector type on any extension cable you add.
- Racking that supports microinverter mounting: Each microinverter mounts to the racking under its panel.
Optional upgrades
- Spare EN4-to-MC4 adapter cables: Useful for service. Use only the Enphase adapter type listed on the datasheet.
Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- Three-phase 208 V only. This model is for 120/208 VAC (4-wire) three-phase service. Do not use it on a 240 V split-phase home service without the transformer Enphase calls for.
- Connector rule. Enphase says the bulkhead and adapter-cable DC connectors must be mated only with the identical type and brand of connector.
- Check module voltage and current. The panel's cold-weather Voc must stay at or below 63 V, its Imp at or below 14 A and its Isc at or below 20 A. Panels above 640 W may see extra clipping losses, according to Enphase.
- Commercial monitoring setup. Plan the IQ Gateway Commercial 2 and its internet connection as part of the design; Enphase ties the full warranty term to an internet-connected gateway.
- Permits and interconnection. Commercial grid-connected systems need utility approval and are designed and installed by qualified professionals under local electrical codes.
