Product Overview

The Briggs & Stratton SimpliPHI 6.6 Battery Controller (part 053084) is the control unit that sits on top of every stack of SimpliPHI 6.6 battery modules. Briggs & Stratton requires one controller per stack of one to three modules. The stack can't be used without it.

The controller is where the stack connects to the rest of the system. It has the stack's DC power terminals for the battery cables, the power button that turns the stack on and off, status lights, and two communication ports (one labeled CAN and one labeled RS485). Through those ports the battery can "talk" to a supported inverter or to Briggs & Stratton's EnergyTrak monitoring gateway. Briggs & Stratton says communication is not required for the battery system to work, but it enables extra functions.

Best For

  • Every new SimpliPHI 6.6 stack: Each stack of one, two or three 6.6 modules needs its own controller.
  • Adding a stack to a growing system: Order one controller for each added stack, up to six controllers per system.
  • Systems with a communicating inverter: Briggs & Stratton lists full integration with EG4, Growatt, Megarevo, Solis and Sol-Ark inverters over CAN bus or RS-485. Check Briggs & Stratton's integration guide for your inverter model.
  • Outdoor installs: The controller is rated IP65 when installed as the manual describes.

Key Features & Specifications

Specification Details
Product type Stack controller for the SimpliPHI 6.6 battery system (top-of-stack power and communications unit)
Part number 053084 (Briggs & Stratton ordering number used on this listing)
Quantity needed 1 per stack (up to 3 batteries per stack)
Maximum per system 6 controllers (6 stacks, 18 batteries)
Inverter communication CAN bus and RS-485. Full integration listed for EG4, Growatt, Megarevo, Solis and Sol-Ark; non-communicating use with any 48 V lithium-supporting inverter.
EnergyTrak gateway communication CAN bus
Operating temperature −4°F to 131°F (−20°C to 55°C); 0–95% relative humidity
Enclosure Powder-coated steel; IP65
Width × depth 28.6 × 6.7 in, the same footprint as a 6.6 battery module
Height and weight Briggs & Stratton makes single-access (6 in tall, 14 lb) and dual-access (8.27 in tall, 24 lb) versions of the controller.
Conduit entry Side plate(s); up to 2 in trade-size conduit. Using the top plate for conduit or wiring voids the IP65 rating.
Altitude Up to 3,000 m (9,842 ft)

What You May Also Need

Usually required

  • SimpliPHI 6.6 battery modules: One to three modules per controller.
  • Base for each stack: Each stack needs a Briggs & Stratton floor or wall base. The SimpliPHI Floor Mount for 6.6 is for floor installs in non-seismic zones only.
  • Battery cables: The battery manual lists red and black 4/0 AWG cables (sized to code) and 3/8 in closed-end power lugs as required parts that are not included. AltE carries red and black 4/0 AWG cables with 3/8 in lugs.
  • Low-voltage (48 V-class) battery inverter or hybrid inverter: The controller connects the stack to the inverter. Pick an inverter from Briggs & Stratton's integration list if you want closed-loop communication.

May be required

  • Battery disconnect: The manual calls for a disconnect between the stack and the charging equipment unless that equipment has one built in.
  • Conduit fittings and communication cable: Use a properly rated conduit fitting on the side plate, and CAT5 (or better) cable for communication wiring.

Optional upgrades

  • EnergyTrak monitoring: The manual describes connecting the controller to an EnergyTrak gateway for battery monitoring in the EnergyTrak app.

Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.

Important Considerations

  • One per stack, no exceptions. Each stack must have a Briggs & Stratton controller on top and a Briggs & Stratton base on the bottom.
  • System limits. Do not go over 6 controllers or 18 battery modules per system. With dual-access controllers, no more than two controllers can be wired together. Going past these limits may damage the batteries and voids the warranty.
  • Keep the IP65 rating. Bring conduit in through the side plate only. Using the top plate for wiring voids the outdoor rating.
  • Communication is optional, but limited to approved equipment. The manual says communication only works with the Briggs & Stratton EnergyTrak gateway and inverters Briggs & Stratton has approved. Follow Briggs & Stratton's integration guide for your inverter.
  • Installation. Install per the NEC, NFPA 855 and local codes, following the SimpliPHI 6.6 operator's manual.
