complaint by Anthony Lenkiewicz

My husband purchased your washing machine without my knowledge about two years ago. I have several complaints:
1. laundry takes longer per load. I used to be able to do two loads before going to work in the morning. Now I can get only one done.

2. the washer does not hold as much as my old Kenmore so I am doing more loads. It also does not spin clothes very dry so it takes longer for laundry to dry. Is this saving energy?

3. it is almost impossible to add more items once the washer is started. I have skinned knuckles trying.

4. your instructions say to use very little detergent which I have done. Whites are no longer white but grungy.

I have owned this horizontal washer for over a year, have seen zero savings in energy. I am on a well, so I do not know if water use is down.

The Staber washing machine has already broken once, and I had to replace a circuit board myself. Have also had to tighten the drive belt several times. Sound like fun? Owning a Staber washer has been a lesson in reality.

The Staber company tells you from the outset that their washer is meant to be repaired by the owner, so take that as an honest warning. Be prepared to actually DO repairs. Repairs are not as easy as you may think.

Whites soon went dingy. Towels smell. Stains still stains. After experimenting, it does use less soap, but only a small amount less, maybe 4 heaping tablespoons.

It is not quiet. My wife and I joke about the "Millenium Falcon" starting up in the laundry closet every time it spin dries. It would be quiet if you were already deaf.

Can be filled with the same amount of clothes as a large capacity washer, but putting in too much limits its amount of tumbling... the mechanism that cleans the clothes.

Staber bungles deliveries, be aware of that too.

Recommendation: Go buy one of the other options in energy efficient washers. The main money-hog in your laundry is the dryer anyway, and paired energystar units probably cost less (although I have not looked into that).

Spend $15 on a clothes line, use it for the summer, and you have "paid" for a Staber in the same way that Staber "pays" for itself as explained on its site.

A $1300 plus shipping for a clothes washer? I would not buy one knowing what I know now.

Staber washer by Jan Bever

We bought this washer after visiting friends who had them. We all operate off grid, so efficient appliances are a must. We had to really think about this carefully as we also dont have the money to waste on a piece of junk. Was this ever a mistake! The washer is really tacky in materials and workmanship. Seems to be like a protype instead of a finished product. Very rough inside and out. If you dont know how to fix appilances, dont get one of these. No one can repair them. After just 2 years, the control board went bad. It took many phone calls to get anyone to return my calls. Then snotty answers. It wasnt like this when I ordered. This is a crummy washer in every way. I am finding more and more people all the time having the same experience. When we have our open house for the National Solar Home Tour, we lable everything to advertise it. We will be having some really nice signs on a couple of things this year! Dont waste your money. There goes over $1,000.00 for a piece of junk. We are not wealthy enough to replace this, so were stuck. Thanks Staber for a crappy product and a great way to rip off the American public legally!
