Morningstar PC MeterBus AdapterWrite a review

Although a very small device, it works great with my Morningstar Sunsaver MPPT solar charge controller. Basically this device converts the RJ11 signal from the charge controller to RS-232 signals that can be logged with a PC.

The Morningstar MS-View software (free download) then reads the RS-232 signals via a ModBus protocol to log and graph your panels array wattage, voltage, load current, charge state, etc.

In the two weeks I've been using this device, my PC has been logging data from the MPPT controller every 5 minutes and has never failed to connect. Works great!

While the hardware works as expected, frankly I expected more from the MSView software. It
s terrible. It lacks any sort of user friendly features and should be modernized.

The main reason I bought this was to update my controllers firmware. I updated my SunSaver MPPT with no issues, so in that regard it works perfectly.

In the future I might adjust set points for charging, but the graphing and data analysis I wanted to do won
t be happening with MSView.

Also because I
m mobile and use the remote meter as well, I find it truly ridiculous to have to flick a dip switch on the controller to use either the meterbus or remote meter instead of both at once.
