Product Overview
The Crown Battery 12CRV110 is a 12-volt deep-cycle AGM battery rated 110 amp-hours (Ah) at the 20-hour rate. It is part of Crown's CRV deep-cycle series and comes in the common BCI Group 31 size. "Deep cycle" means it is built to be discharged and recharged over and over, which is what solar and backup battery banks do every day.
AGM stands for absorbed glass mat. The liquid inside the battery is soaked into glass-fiber mats, so the battery is sealed. Crown lists it as a valve-regulated (VRLA), sealed, non-spillable battery and calls it maintenance-free: unlike flooded lead-acid batteries, it does not need water added.
One battery is 12 V. To build a 24 V or 48 V battery bank, several batteries are wired together in series. Banks can also be wired in parallel for more capacity. The bank then connects to an inverter or charge controller set for AGM charging.
Best For
- Small off-grid solar systems: Cabins, sheds and remote equipment where a 12 V battery or a bank of 12 V batteries stores solar power for use at night.
- Backup power banks: Store energy for use during utility outages as part of a properly designed backup system with an inverter/charger.
- Places where you don't want to add water: Crown lists this battery as sealed and maintenance-free, so there is no watering schedule.
- Replacing an existing Group 31 battery: The standard Group 31 size makes it easier to fit trays and boxes built for that size. Check the dimensions and terminal type first.
Key Features & Specifications
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Product type | 12 V deep-cycle VRLA AGM battery (Crown CRV deep cycle series) |
| Model / item number | 12CRV110 / AGM12110 |
| BCI group size | 31 |
| Nominal voltage | 12 V |
| Capacity | 110 Ah at the 20-hour rate; 89 Ah at the 5-hour rate. Faster discharges give less total capacity. |
| Reserve capacity | 200 minutes at 25 A; 55 minutes at 75 A. This is how long the battery can supply a steady load. |
| Storage energy | 1.28 kWh (20-hour rate). Crown notes that its storage kWh figures are calculated using a 50% depth of discharge, or 1.94 volts per cell. |
| Construction | Sealed, non-spillable valve-regulated (VRLA) AGM. Crown lists it as maintenance-free, meaning no water is added. |
| Charging settings | Cycle charge 14.40–14.64 V; float 13.20 V; temperature correction ±3 mV/°C (Crown's 12CRV110 power sheet, 2016). Charge current per Crown's AGM Safety First guide (2026): recommended 10% and maximum 25% of the 20-hour (C/20) rating, about 11 A and 27.5 A for this 110 Ah battery. |
| Terminal hardware | 5/16"-18 stainless steel Keps hex nut with star washer. Torque: 50–70 in-lb (SAE/automotive terminal) or 100–120 in-lb (stainless threaded terminal). |
| Operating temperature | −4°F to 120°F (−20°C to 49°C) with proper temperature-compensated charging |
| Terminal | Standard BCI Type M dual terminal |
| Handle | Included |
| Dimensions (L × W × H) | 13.00 × 6.77 × 9.38 in (330 × 172 × 238 mm) |
| Weight | 60 lb (27.2 kg), approximate |
| Shipping | Non-spillable (US DOT, ICAO, IATA); UN2800 |
What You May Also Need
Usually required
- Charge controller or inverter/charger: Charges the battery from solar panels, the grid or a generator. Choose one that can be set to Crown's values for this battery: 14.40–14.64 V cycle charge and 13.20 V float. For charge current, Crown's AGM guide (2026) recommends 10% of the 20-hour rating (about 11 A for this battery) and a maximum of 25% (about 27.5 A).
- Battery cables: Connect batteries to each other and to the inverter or charge controller. Size them for the current and the length of the run, and choose lugs that fit the battery's 5/16"-18 terminal hardware.
- Fuse, breaker or disconnect: Protects the battery cables from overcurrent and lets you switch off the battery for service.
May be required
- Additional 12CRV110 batteries: 24 V and 48 V systems need several 12 V batteries in series. Use batteries of the same model and age in one bank.
Optional upgrades
- Battery monitor: Shows battery voltage and state of charge so you avoid draining the bank too deeply.
Check current manufacturer documentation before combining components, especially batteries, inverters, communications equipment and system-control hardware.
Important Considerations
- Use Crown's charging settings. Crown's power sheet lists 14.40–14.64 V cycle charge and 13.20 V float for this battery. Crown notes that cyclic use deeper than 50% depth of discharge may need different charger set points. Wrong settings can shorten battery life.
- Usable energy is less than the label math. Lead-acid batteries last longer when they aren't fully drained. Crown's own storage-energy figures assume 50% depth of discharge, and Crown recommends limiting depth of discharge to 75% or less.
- Cold weather. Crown recommends keeping the battery above 60% state of charge when it operates below 32°F (0°C).
- Don't mix batteries. In a series or parallel bank, use batteries of the same model, capacity and age.
- Heavy. Each battery weighs about 60 lb. Plan for lifting and a rack or box that can hold the full bank.
- Protect the terminals. Battery terminals can deliver very high current. Cover them, keep tools away and add overcurrent protection close to the battery.
