altE® was founded in 1999 by three impassioned engineers focused on bringing renewable energy to the web and to the DIY enthusiast by reducing the costs of green energy systems and revealing the truths of how home based solar and wind energy systems can be designed and installed. They set out to build an online community and support that community with extensive, free educational materials, competitive pricing, knowledgeable staff and unbounded enthusiasm. Today, we at altE are achieving that vision. We provide our customers with a select choice of renewable energy brands and products that we would use (and in many cases do) on our homes, encompassing solar and wind energy systems, as well as quality renewable energy training. Our retail arm, altE Store, services Do-It-Yourselfers, Off-Grid'ers, hobbyists, and students with superb knowledge and friendliness, while our wholesale division, altE Direct, provides personal service and expertise to professional installers and system integrators. |

altE's website stands alone in the sheer quantity of educational articles, reference materials, calculators, educational videos, useful tips and detailed product specifications it provides its customers. Our product management staff dedicates it's time to adding new information and making it as accurate and complete as possible so that our customers can make the most educated buying decision. Our active online community of customers share installations, ideas, questions and answers through our forum, and customer photo gallery. Our technical sales folks are some of the best trained in our neck of the industry. Nearly all of our sales staff has taken the NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam, and every one that has, has passed. Throughout the year our sales folks not only stay sharp by attending technical and national code trainings but also participate in installations. Occasionally, you'll even find our guys running experiments on renewable energy gear in the mysterious altE 'Labs'. We love renewable energy, its benefit to our planet and our customers.
