Pika Energy
1.7 kW Wind Turbine
Capture more energy with Pika Turbine !
February 2016 Update: Pika T701 Turbine achieves full SWCC Certification (see 'Documents' tab above)! Why is this important?:
Pika Energy’s T701 Wind Turbine captures natural energy from the wind to help home-owners and businesses cut their electric bills and reduce their environmental impact. The T701 introduces several innovations to the small wind industry, including Wi-Fi enabled online system monitoring, best-in-class safety, and flexible wind/solar hybrid options, thanks to DC Microgrid technology. The Pika T701 Wind Turbine is designed for fast, simple installation, and uses state-of-the-art airfoils for high performance and quiet operation. Pika has spent years fatigue testing their turbines to ensure reliable performance.
Pika Energy's T701 Wind Turbine is a smart choice for remote homes and cabins in windy areas, and a great complement to new and existing solar PV systems - both grid tie or off grid. Building a hybrid energy system by adding a wind turbine to your off-grid PV system provides precious power during extended storms and cloudy periods, and helps prolong battery life by supporting loads through the dark winter months.
With Pika's X3001 Inverter, take the final step to energy independence whether your connected to the grid or off-grid. The inverter is an efficient, reliable gateway, converting 380 VDC electricity to split-phase 240 VAC. The Pika X3001 allows you to easily AC-couple a wind, or wind-solar hybrid system to a compatible off-grid inverter (*See AC Coupling Application Note in DOCUMENTS tab).
NOTE: Per Manufacturer, sales of the T701 Turbine are limited to North America and the Caribbean.

FAQs:
How do I know if I have enough wind ? The more wind you have, the more energy your turbine will produce. A small wind turbine works best in regions with an average wind speed of at least 10 mph (4.5 m/s) at a height of 90 feet (30 m). Click Here to see Average Wind Speeds in your area of the country!
How tall of a tower do I need to mount the turbine on ? Your Pika T701 turbine should be mounted on a Pika-approved tower (otherwise the warranty will be void) that it is at least 30 feet higher than trees and structures within a 300-foot radius. Surrounding objects create air turbulence that reduces the energy production of your turbine, so it is important to use a sufficiently tall tower. Short towers are a leading cause of turbine under-performance. Remember that trees will grow taller in a few years, so if in doubt, use a taller tower. Contact your altE sales rep for pricing on the T701 Guyed Tower.
How much space do I need to install the turbine on my property ? The space you need depends on the type of tower you choose and your local zoning. In general, you will need at least 1/2-acre of land. A guyed tower requires a kite shaped area at least as long and wide as the tower. A monopole tower requires an open lane at least as tall as the turbine, for raising and lowering the tower.
How much of my electric bill will a Pika system offset ? A Pika wind turbine can offset between 20% and 60% of an average household’s electricity needs. A Pika wind-solar hybrid system can offset between 40% and 100% of an average household’s electricity needs. Wind and solar energy resources are site-dependent, and the average household electricity usage varies widely.
Can I mount a Pika turbine on my house? Wind turbines mounted on buildings have a poor track record. Comparative data from the Boston Museum of Science indicates that even building-mounted wind turbines need tall towers to get above the turbulence from the building. A Pika T701 turbine should only be mounted on a Pika-approved tower.
How much maintenance is required to own the turbine? The Pika T701 wind turbine is designed to be maintenance-free for the first 10 years. Pika recommends replacing the bearings and inspecting the blades at 10-year intervals. The turbine has a 5 year warranty.
