The models in this category have the capability of being either a solar charge controller, a DC load controller, or a diversion load controller. The trick is that they can only do one at a time. Acting as a diversion load controller means that the controller is wired to the battery bank and to a diversion load or dump load, such as a resistor or heating element. When the desired voltage is reached, the controller diverts the extra current away from the battery bank and into the designated DC diversion load.
