Xantrex c35 questions and more

I'm looking for some information about the feature on the xantrex c35 model, it's called load diversion. I purchased a 600 watt wind generator and the Xantrex c35 and want to ask about the load diversion, I know when the batteries get fully charged I need to divert the energy to a separate heater or something similar, so if I'm using a 600 watt wind generator I must find something that is over 600 watts like a heater, but my problem is where do I find a heater that is 600 watts and 12 volts at the same time, any heater that I've run into that is 12 volts is at best 150 watts. I was thinking, can I not run the two wires out of the xantrex load diversion output to a 1000 watt invertor and then plug in an 800 watt electric ceramic heater to the invertor?

dump load resistors, my friend.

check these out.

if you dont have a water heater that you can use, you can use the air resistors.  I have also heard of people getting a small electric rv water heater and switching to those dump load resistors and having it feed into their regular water heater.

If you get the air resistors, you will have to get a suitable box for them (usually metal with grates).  We have not found a good commercially available one yet, otherwise we would sell it.

Well, in theory, that should work.  I have not personally used the huntington resistors.  The other problem I saw is that you said that you were using a C35.  600 watts / 12 volts = 50 amps.  The C35 may not like that.  I would check with the turbine manufacturer to see what they suggest as a setup to be safe.

Ah... I didn't do the math, you are right, the c35 is only good for 35 amps, I guess I'll start looking for a c60 and sell my c35 on ebay. Thanks

I just want to make sure, the generator is a 90 vdc and the guy says it's 600 watts, can you tell me what the amps are from that? thanks

Re: Xantrex c35 questions and more

well, to answer the question, that is 6.7amperes.

I thought it was for a 12v system no?  I'm afraid I'm not aware of a 90v generator that will go unregulated into a 12v battery bank.

Maybe some folks who know more than me about wind can help identify your turbine or how to set it up.

It's actually a 12 volt wind generator rated for 600 watts but also a  90 volt pm generator. Thats what the guy said who I bought it from.
