I need help. I am doing this Investigatory project in school about solar panels and I don't know how it works. I am supposed to create a home-made solar panel and I need a model or a research material that I can base it on to. Please help me, I really need to create this project.

Hi Eva,
Well, first off there are really two types of solar panels people refer to - one that uses the sun's light to produce electricity (uses photovoltaic cells) and another that uses the sun's energy to heat water or air. You can see a basic explananation of how a solar panel that produces electricity works by going to Sandia National Labs' website:

For learning about using solar energy to heat water or air, you might want to look at Florida Solar Energy Center's website:

http://www.fsec.ucf.edu/ed/sw/

And click on the button of the sun that says "Solar Wonders". There you will find many useful presentations on solar energy and how it works.

hello!
u can make a simple solar panel by using single crystal or poly one, but first is more effective. get some simple things from market and then make it,
things include silicon crystals (single faced.)
a small inverter, a battery , a transistor 1 watt

Solar panes to develop electricity uses a P_N layer technology. When snlight strikes the first layer it causes elec to be developed at juncture of layers and pos, neg donnections cary off juice. Has to do with electrons. I think getting knocked by photons and exciting second layer. If I am wirng let me know.IMR.
