green exterior insulation systems?

Hi everybody,
I am looking around for a green alternative to phenolic foam panels and polyicicyanurate panels. They are not recyclable, but they provide extremely high R-value per square inch (7-8+)

Does anyone have any experience with green alternatives that can provide the same degree of insulation?
I was planning on concrete-fiber board and insulation on the exterior of a shell i just bought.

thanks in advance.

Re: green exterior insulation systems?

Hi, I have had success with insulating cinder block buildings (cmu) by using expanded and extruded poly styrene panels (styrofoam and blue board). The R-value per inch is less but you can just increase the thickness. Both materials are recycleable. Then I cover the walls with Hardy pannel, tape the joints, and run synthetic stucco. It looks great and holds up well. For more info, e-mail me at djridgew @ ouray.cudenver.edu        Dan Ridgeway
