charge controller question

charge controller question

exactly does a charge controller do??

I ask because if the most important things I need to worry about are charge voltage from RE source, over-discharg, and over-charge... I belive I can make up a unit that will address these issues, really cheap....

I was wondering who els has tried this and what results did they have?

Almost all controllers will prevent over charging of the battery. If you get a unit that has a low voltage disconnect it will prevent over discharging. Once you read over the articles in the how to section you'll be ready to take a look at the wide selection of charge controllers we offer:

The most basic of charge controllers simply monitors line/battery voltage and with voltage high and low set points opens or closes a contactor/solenoid.
