How to test the charge of GEL batteries

Hi,

is there any way to test the charge of sealed GEL batteries?
With Lead Acid you can check the specific gravity of the water/acid to determine the charge but how do you test the charge of GEL batteries?

I recently wrote an article about that on my blog.  It is actually for lead-acid batteries, but I think you'll find it helpful.  Follow the link below, and then look back 3 or 4 postings for one called "Measuring Battery State of Charge (SOC)".
