altE is committed to spreading the renewable energy word. Each person that contacts them by phone, email, or simply by visiting their website will have access to a wealth of information including the latest news, products, and expert advice. altE is so passionate about education, that they started their very own line of renewable energy courses. altE U offers a wide variety of courses in Massachusetts and Ohio.

altE Customer, Pete Corbett, recently took the PV303: Advanced Photovoltaics Design & Installation course offered by altE U. This is an ISPQ accredited five day course. It also counts toward the NABCEP educational requirement. PV303 is made up of classroom lecture on advanced PV topics and lab and installation work on battery based and utility-interactive PV systems. The course also devotes an entire day to preparation for the NABCEP certification test.

Pete found the altE website while searching the internet. He was drawn to this course because of the NABCEP certification for his company, First Century Energy. Pete is Vice President of Engineering and Construction there. He is also Secretary on the Board for the Georgia Solar Energy Association, the American Solar Energy Society Chapter for the State of GA. He is also point person with the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) as they prepare to start a Georgia SEIA Chapter. First Century Energy is a full service commercial solar developer and EPC firm located in Atlanta, Georgia. As you can see on their website, www.firstcenturyenergy.com, they specialize in providing turnkey solar PV, solar thermal, and wind solutions to commercial and government clients and rooftop and ground-mounted systems on industrial properties. "We are focused on advancing solar in Georgia to the position of solar in CA and NJ," Pete explains. James Cormican, Sales Engineer, specializing in photovoltaic system design and lead PV Instructor and Dave Compaan, Director of altE U and NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installer, were the instructors for the course. Pete found the course to be extremely helpful. "The class and instructors were extremely well organized and thorough," Pete says. "I have been to two other classes to prepare for NABCEP and respectfully Dave and James were hands down better, more knowledgeable, and organized."

He found the lecture and book work portion of the course to be most helpful. Pete is a 30 year contractor and real estate developer by trade and already had a strong knowledge of field work. NABCEP was very important to Pete as it provided a strong credibility for the company. "Having my NABCEP certification has added a huge level of acknowledgement and respect in this fast growing industry."
