Off Grid 4.7kW Solar Power System

Looking for an off grid system that will power your cabin, home, or other remote location? Look no further. altE has designed several kits that give you the option to choose the best sytem for your needs - whether you're looking for a roof mount system, a ground mount system, or a pole mount system, or if you have a preference of a battery technology for your energy storage. There is also the option of adding wind power to your off grid system, for a hybrid alternative that complements solar perfectly. These kits are designed to provide you with most everything you need to go off the grid. The performance of each off grid solar power system will vary greatly based on the location where it is installed. See the map below to see the solar potential in your area. And, if you need help sizing a system for your off grid home, start by checking out our Off Grid System Calculator.

How much power will I get from this system?

Find your location on the Map. This map shows the amount of daily power, in hours, received each day, on an optimally tilted surface during the time of year when there's the least amount of sun.

Insolation Map 4.6kW Kit

  • So if you lived in the Northeast for example, at 7 kWh of daily power, you'd get on average 207 kWh of power each month
  • If you lived in Florida, at 12.6kWh of daily power, you'd get on average 378 kWh of power each month
  • Southwest areas of the country, at 15.4kWh of daily power, can get on average 462 kWh of power each month
  • Base Components of this Off Grid System:

The solar panels and the pre-wired inverter/charge controller system and components are included in the base kit. Battery bank and Mounting solutions are options that you can add on.
*NOTE:  The image of the solar panels above is representational.  The correct panel will always be listed in the table below.
**NOTE:  The array is configured with 4 parallel strings of 3 modules in series.

    Let's start with Solar Panels:

This off-grid residential home solar system features twelve (12) Trina Vertex S 395W Bifacial Mono Black Solar Panels. The Vertex S series from Trina Solar features innovative 210mm solar wafers in its 120 monocrystalline cells. Utilizing ⅓ split cell, non-destructive cutting and super-dense interconnect technologies, this 395-Watt solar module delivers more power than other modules with the same physical footprint.

What really sets this 395W solar panel apart from the competition is Trina's 25/25 warranty - a bundled 25-year product and 25-year power output warranty in the United States with no strings attached - and its transparent backsheet, which allows it to collect reflected photons on its underside, acting as a bifacial solar panel. Ground-mount over reflective surfaces like light gravel or concrete to maximize the bifacial gain!

Next we need the Inverter and Solar Charge Controller System:

ALTE PRE-WIRED SYSTEM SCHNEIDER SW4024 INVERTER WITH MIDNITE CL150 CHARGE CONTROLLER

The inverter in a renewable energy system will convert the DC power from the solar panels to usable AC power for your home. The charge controller does several things, most importantly keeping your batteries from overcharging, and an MPPT charge controller will allow your solar panels to operate at their optimum power output voltage, improving system performance by up to 30%. In this kit, altE Pre-Wired Inverter System takes the guesswork out of installing a battery based inverter system, saving you valuable time. With a pre-wired solution, the confusion is taken out of selecting all the right parts. This system uses the Schneider Electric Conext SW 4048 Inverter/Charger that is rated at 4,000 watts and uses a 48 volt battery. It produces 120/240 volts AC. The Conext SW is a convenient combination of an inverter, multi-stage battery charger, and transfer switch in one electronic device. The Midnite Solar Classic 150 MPPT Solar Charge Controller is the only MPPT charge controller with both ground fault and arc fault protection built in, providing the greatest protection for your system. And it's made in the USA!

In the above chart, we are referring to the following Battery Options for this Kit:

KiloVault 2100 PLC Advanced AGM Batteries The 2100 PLC is a pure lead carbon sealed AGM deep cycle solar battery, for cycling applications.  KiloVault 2100 PLC is a cost-effective, maintenance-free battery that offers superior performance in Partial State Of Charge (PSoC) applications, combining pure lead and advanced carbon technology for extended battery life and rapid charging.  The batteries are designed for residential or light commercial off-grid, backup, or self-consumption applications.
  • KiloVault Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) Batteries are a drop-in replacement for lead acid batteries, and are much safer. They are modular, lightweight, and scaleable for small to large installations. And better yet - no maintenance, no cooling, and no ventilation required! While this technology is still the highest up front cost, you still get the lowest cost over the life of the system.

Why Should I Purchase a Kit?

Purchasing a complete solar kit offers numerous advantages over buying individual components. Firstly, it ensures compatibility among all the elements, sparing you the hassle of matching components that may not work seamlessly together. Additionally, solar kits are often designed for easy installation, making the setup process more straightforward for those without extensive technical expertise. Kits typically include all the essential components, such as solar panels, inverters, and mounting hardware, which can result in cost savings compared to buying each piece separately. Moreover, solar kits often come with warranties that cover the entire system, providing peace of mind and support in case of issues. In sum, choosing a solar kit simplifies the transition to solar energy and offers a convenient, cost-effective, and reliable solution for renewable power generation.
