Xantrex 2400W DR2424 24V Inverter

Written May 11, 2007

20 Amp Inverter/Charger

I live off grid in the Alaska Range where the winter temperatures drops to -36 and wind chills in excess of
-85. We have two Xantrex DR2424 inverter chargers wired to two 20 amp services giving us a total of 40 amps of AC power to the house. The system incudes 12 six volt batteries wired to give 24V DC and 1600 amp hours. I could not be happier with this product it has been running continously for two years without a problem. It will take you a day to figure out the system and fine tune it but once it is up and running you only have to do battery maintainance once every couple of months. Before we installed the inverter/charger battery system we were running the generator 12-14 hours a day in the winter using six gallons a day, 42 gallons a week. Since we installed the system we are down to 12-15 gallons a week with power 24/7 that's a $3500 a year savings getting twice the power. The system has paid for it's self. Last year we added two 125w solar panels which has decreased fuel by another 25%. The only draw back to the DR2424 is that it is not a true sine wave and creates noise in the ceiling fan and a slight hum in some electornics. Two well lit thumbs up :_}
