Sun-Mar Sealand 510W Review

A little pricey but a great toilet. I bought it for my summer cottage that has a questionable cesspool of unknown size. For that reason, we wanted to make sure we weren't taxing it by sending excess water into the ground with a traditional toilet. This one uses only 1 pint to flush and is easy to operate with the foot pedal. If need be, I could move to a Sun-Mar composting system in the future and this toilet will bolt right on. Winterizing it for the cold northeast winters should be a breeze since there is no tank holding water. As far as installation goes, it was very simple. One water supply connection and then I hooked it up to my existing toilet flange with the supplied gasket and 4 flange bolts.

Prior to purchasing this, my concern was it's ability to handle solids due to the 1 pint flush. To my surprise, it works very well and rarely do I have to double flush. It has a large trap opening in the bottom which looks like it would be next to impossible to clog. The only thing I would say is that you need to make sure you throw your toilet paper towards the center of the bowl if you don't crumple it up, so it doesn't stick to the sides. This way the water can catch it to pull it down. Hardly a problem at all. You can also purchase a sprayer hose to use with it if you are concerned. That would assist in cleaning it. I just throw some baking soda in there and it cleans up nice and treats the ground good. I am not sure what the long term reliability will be as I've only had it a few months but so far, so good.
