Stimulus Creates Solar Hot Water Surge at AltE

With the recent lift in the cap on residential solar hot water heating, there is a surge in interest among residential homeowners nationwide in greening their hot water. In the past week alone, there has been an increase in calls, emails to AltE and class registrations at AltE University, formerly the Alternative Energy Store in regards to learning about, sizing and installing solar hot water heating solutions nationwide!

"We've seen an impact already in the traffic to our site and in the phone calls we've been receiving. This is the best time of year to plan for your renewable energy improvements - and it looks like, with this new stimulus package, this might very well be the Year of the Solar Hot Water Heater!" said Sascha Deri, CEO of AltE.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed into law on February 17th, included substantial investments and incentives relating to renewable energy. The Act included allocations of $92 billion dollars for cleantech, another $32.8 billion going towards clean energy and another $26 billion allocated for improved energy efficiency.

How does this legislation affect the end consumer? In the past, there was a $2,000.00 cap on the tax credits for residential homeowners implementing solar hot water heating, which although helpful, was not as generous as the credits for solar electric and other renewables. For consumers, the lift on the $2000.00 cap and the shift to 30% of the projects total cost, makes the already affordable solar hot water heaters even more cost effective.

"Solar thermal technology is often overlooked in lieu of the better known solar panel and wind turbine alternative energy options, but it is very efficient and affordable and is the system that offers the fastest return on investment," continued Deri.

Offering not only the solar hot water heaters and equipment, AltE has also augmented their solar hot water heating education offerings. Both the Hudson, MA and Columbus, OH branches are offering introductory classes and more advanced sessions with hands on labs for installation experience.

"This year, AltE University has already had to add more solar hot water heating classes to the roster and the classes are filling up quickly! We even have a class on the installation process this year - for both professionals and DIY renewable energy folks," explained Kristen Ferguson, the AltE University Program Manager. "We're excited to expand and continue offering high quality renewable energy education throughout this year of alternative energy growth!"
