AltE Store Launches Kill A Watt Database for the RE Community

Hudson, Massachusetts based AltE is proud to announce the launch of the Kill A Watt Database on their website AltEStore.com. The database, which will be accessible from multiple points on the website, is designed to help people estimate and share electric load information about appliances, technology and anything that uses power – old or new – in a shared environment. Using the Kill A Watt meter, a device that measures the power consumption of a device in several ways, anyone can add electric loads for any type of device. The Kill A Watt Database can be found on the web at http://www.altestore.com/store/killawatt/.

"We work with residential homeowners every day, and we advise them that the first step to implementing alternative energy technology is assessing their electric loads so that they can identify what appliances and electric devices in their home would most benefit from energy efficiency improvements," explained Sascha Deri, CEO of AltE. "In some cases, our customers may not have a Kill A Watt meter, or perhaps they are looking for real data on what the electrical load is on something they are considering purchasing or using in their home, and this database will help people access information and share it in a useful way."

The Kill A Watt Database is a community driven hub of power consumption information designed to help anyone, anywhere more accurately assess their electric loads list as they prepare for alternative energy. The database includes areas for appliances, computers, home theater equipment, radios and even pet related items. Community members, when logged into the site, can submit the model and specific data and even photos of the item.

"We have several goals here," explained Deri. "We’re looking forward to growing a great list of items and their real world electric loads for internal and external reference which will have a lot of value – but even more importantly, we’re trying to engage our community and anyone out there on the web, to participate in a shared vision to become more aware of power consumption and to understand how they are using electricity and how they might be able to become more efficient."

AltE has launched the database with employee contributions which were the result of a spirited internal company contest. The Kill A Watt database will be promoted within the active AltE community and through various social media outlets in order to generate interest and participation. Entries into the Kill A Watt database will also help members of the AltE community to garner more points towards the Renewable Rewards contest hosted monthly on the site, where community members who are active have a chance to win gift certificates to the site!

"We’re very excited to offer this information to the public and to host a space where our community members can create a terrific and comprehensive power consumption database of all types of electric devices found throughout the home," continued Deri. "We know once we get the word out, this electric loads database will take off!"
