Setting up solar system

I have a make shift system in the woods. I have 3 solar panels a 25 amp charge controller and a battery bank.  I am trying to wire them with fuses and I am not sure where to place the fuses. I have the solar panels going into a combiner box with no fuses, and this goes directly to the charge controller.I have one large fuse between the battery bank and inverter on the positve pole.

Re: Setting up solar system

Hello Greg;
 Fuse the hot side of the solar panels before the charge controller with a 10 amp blade fuse to start with and fuse the hot side of the charge controller at the battery with the same size.
 The only variable would be is if you have 3 175 watt panels, fuse it a little bit higher. The rule of thumb would be the total current output of the panels (amps)should be matched with the amperage of the fuse.

Re: Setting up solar system

hi greg,

give me a call and I can help you sort out your system.  Once we figure out what you have and what should be done, I will write it in a post later.  the fundamentals are that overcurrent devices go on the positive, the fuses are sized based on what the panel says the max series fuse rating is (or 1.56 x ISC) and the charge controller disconnect for 25a charge controller will be either 20 or 30a depending on what kind it is.
