solar hot water pumps

The Rheem 80 gal hot water tanks with heat exchanger seems to be popular for solar applications.  However, I noticed somewhere that its external heat exchanger is 100' long!  Does this require high powered AC pumps?....ie., would one of the small PV pumps like El Sid work with this kind of tank?

Will, not sure if and El Cid pump will work for you. It is designed for low head and low flow. The resistance in 100' of tubing would need a little more head pressure from the pump. Consider using a Grunfos or Taco circulator pump similar to those used in closed loop heating systems.

How are you planning on using the storage tank, is it in a pressurized system or drainback?   If it is in a pressurized loop, you don't need to worry about it, as there is always water in it and very limited friction loss, probably less than 2' head.

We sell the ElSid and Laing DC pumps with this all of the time.
