mounting system

I have a flat and tiny roof area home in San Francisco. I've been thinking of installing as many solar panels as possible, however, that means the walking space on the roof will be gone, let alone the difficulty to change the roofing material in the future?

Does anyone know of a mounting system that is built like a patio? - basically like a rectangular frame sitting on 4 columns.  Has it been done before?

thanks

Re: mounting system

there are no set rules for mounting. Do you have room on the ground? You can mount them on other parts of your roof as long as you direct and angle them correctly.
