remote disconnect of inverter

I am using my parent's house to relay a wireless Internet connection to my house. We are both off grid.

I want to be able to remotely (wirelessly) turn on and off the 175 inverter that powers the Interent radio from about 2000 feet away. I need the power on only a few hours a day, but do not want to wake up my parents when I need to turn off the inverter late at night. My batteries run at 12 volts.

Is there some way with a family style radio to trigger a disconnect? (The disconnect is more important than turning on.) Is there some other way of disconnecting? There is a router, so if I could send a message to device plugged in via Internet an off command to a remote switch, that could power down. (I would still have to power up, of course)
