thank tom for your help, this info is perfect , yes i will be using the alt as a battery bank charger . oh a friend tell me that a threadmill motor would work better  than the alt . is this possible ?, if so, at what rpm do i turn a threadmill motor to generate 24volts

i have a system an outback vfx 2430 invert. a fm 80 ch.contr. 4 torjan t105 225ah batt.a mate don have the panell yet but have a  alternator 24v . question can i use a 12v motor to turn the alt and charge my batt. bank
