Customer Service Lacking

We have had 3 GoPower inverters. One failed for no apparent reason while under warranty, and it took 6 months to get GoPower/Carmanah to take it back and send a replacement.

One was killed for reasons that we knew would not be covered, so we didn't bother contacting them.

The most recent one, which we owned for a month, was struck by lightning. I called them immediately, and the person I spoke with told me it sounded like the output board died, and I should bring it to the store where I bought it, so they could send it back for repair. I did so. They then gave the store WEEKS of runaround ("run a bench test first," "nobody by that name works here," "does it smell like anything is burned?" etc.), eventually they told the store to send an email to a particular address to get an RMA (return merchandise authorization) number.

They did. No reply.

I finally got fed up and called myself.

After impatiently explaining the situation to the person on the phone (and basically being told it was my fault they didn't take it back, because the tech who told me to send it back wasn't authorized to make such suggestions), then being told that they couldn't find any record of the email sent by the store (a copy was literally taped to the inverter sitting on a shelf in their store), I was told they'd get back to me.

Well, they did, several hours later. They won't take it back because lightning voids the warranty, AND they don't offer ANY repair service.

They were never going to send an RMA number.

So even if the only thing our $1300 investment needs is one new circuit board, it's trash, along with all the money we paid for it.

We're stuck living off the grid with an underpowered old inverter (the one that took 6 months to get replaced), but it can't run anything as big as a refrigerator. Think how much you keep in the fridge...

I will never do business with these people again.

Ever.

At least one manufacturer warrants against lightning for properly installed systems. Do your homework, and save yourself some money.
