This frame comes in a 3" X 3" ~4 foot box. Taking it out of the box, you realize you have a project, hundreds of parts and pieces. I put the frame together over a weekend in the garage, probably about 4 hours due to having to redo some things. I have three different sizes of PV modules, so I had to make a determination about where the upper horizontal bar would go. I decided to put it up at a level where the largest panel (130W KC) would not seem out of balance and so I purchased and cut some sheet metal to extend the smallest panel (GE 50) up to that bar.
I decided to build it entirely on the ground. That's the disadvantage I see of this unit, the PV modules are part of the frame, so you can't build the frame without at least two modules. Once you put on two modules, it's pretty heavy: 30lbs for the frame itself plus the weight of your modules. I then covered the whole frame in a tarp and attached a rope and got help from 3 other adults to help me hoist it on the roof. I definately needed the help there. Once on the roof, attaching was not difficult. I had pre-determined what the distance should be between the front and back supports. This is dependent on your lattitude and distance between the horizontal members. Now that it is up I have space to easily attach two more modules, which I plan to do.
