This product is superb. Previously, I had a miserable offering from Solaner (Spanish) which was rubbish. I have connected 3 x 24v nominal panels in series giving a nominal output of 75v but in fact the output is between 90v and 130v (beware, the Mx60 cannot take more than 150v!). 4 banks of 3x175 watt panels each are connected in paralel and the maximum wattage I have achieved has been 2130 watts. With the previous charge controller I never got more than 1750 watts. The Mx60 charges a 48v battery bank and it is most efficient if you use power while it is being produced rather than try and store the power and use it later so any sunny day put on the dishwasher, clothes washer, swimming pool pump / chlorinater and any other high electric use machine in the morning and let the afternoon sun charge the batteries.

Three items of interest. Firstly the default settings are correct for Exide batteries but PLEASE order the optional temperature gauge as the absorbtion and float voltage levels change hugely with temperature. Secondly, you don't need to equalise Exide batteries providing they reach the float level every so often as the absorbtion voltage and the equalisation voltage are the same. Thirdly, Two sets of friends with 24v systems heard me raving about the Mx60 and bought one - the maximum output is 60A (actually 70 if you alter the default settings) and therefore a 1680W array is the maximum the Mx60 will handle efficiently with a 24v system. A 48v system will easily handle a 3kw array.

The Outback MX60 Charge Controller is easy to install and configure. It is also a well-made piece of equipment, and looks and feels like the tough heavy-duty equipment it is.

Excellent design! Works well. Almost foolproof.
Quite good manual. Number one in its class!
Extensively customizable! Programmable Auxiliary
control output.
Pros: Some displays even with humour! ;-)
Cons: Only 1 single AUX output with 200 mA!
A truly great product after which others is copycatted.
Gives a stream supreme of power from Ur panels.

This controller has improved my systems performance considerably. Being able to connect the panels at a higher voltage gives me a good charge even on cloudy days.

The MX60 was a snap to install. Definitely user friendly.
System status on front panel display is great. I have a 1980 watt array connected to the controller which keeps the 48 volt battery bank charged.

This is a great Charge controller. I think it is a must-have for any PV array (large or small). It is a Heavy-Duty controller that is well constructed. The interface is easy to use and very informative. Installation is extremely simple and I have never had a problem with it.

MX60 with 1520W PV array by Paul Stepanoff

The MX60 is great! Easy to install and easy to program. Fit right into Xantrex 5548 panel in place of C-40. One caution, 140V DC input limit can limit installation options as two Sanyo HIT PV in series can go above 140V Voc.

I use this in a remote summer house and have it running at just below max capacity. It is pushing more amps to the batteries then any other controller that I have used. The build quality is great on this. Its a solid unit. I have it running a 12v battery bank from a 48v mixed array (440w array and a 240w array) and get around 50-52amps at peak sun into the batter bank. The arrays and charger are also around 80 feet apart so having a controller that would convert the voltage was critical.

Best controller I've been able to find. Been using mine for 2 years charging a 12v bank from a 48v array. Biggest problem I have is the ReBulk setting (voltage that must be reached before a bulk charge is reinitiated) can only be set in 1 volt increments - I would prefer 0.1v increments. The reasoning here is the 13v setting obviously forces a bulk charge every morning. The next available step is 12v (which translates to approximately a 40% charge) is too low. Battery freezing becomes an issue (about 5F at 40%) and I don't like discharging that deep. 70% is my preferred depth so a 12.4v setpoint would be reasonable but it can't be done. If your bank voltage is higher, this becomes less of an issue. The 150v limit is a minor problem, 250 would be nice, but I can live with it.
