Great starting windmill by Rob vanNostrand

I bought this on impulse because it was an all in one starter solution,
to help me learn more about wind generators. So far so good! It seems
well designed and easy to install. (Still working on a more long-term
tower).

Got it up in a few hours, starts right at 7 MPH, very little noise. (Sounds like a fan in gusty winds) from 30 ft can not even hear it. Instantaneous response to winds. In stop mode turns very slowly in high winds, in charged up stop, almost stands still. I will add a second one this fall.....

It needs plenty of wind by Paul Zaffino

The power generation curve is pretty steep and narrow. You'll need almost 20 mph to start producing anything worthwhile. In a 30 mph wind it does it's job very well. In a 40 mph wind power output will drop off considerably. When shorting the output wires, it shuts down very nice and stays shut down, which is important in high wind areas. I had a whisper 200 that disintegrated in a high wind. If you don't have the wind, it's not for you. If you've got the wind, it'll do as advertised.

Very matured 3 generation design. Good manual.
Can easily handle high winds. Very silent.
Hardly hearable. Adjustable regulation setpoint.
Pros: Excellent Design! MPPT charging.
Cons: Works only in quite much wind! LED hardly visible
in daylight. Effect very sensitive to turbulence.
Conclusion: In non-windy locations is a Solar Panel better!

Great value for small applications by Keith van den Broek

I'm using two of these turbines to power a remote research facility. They provide more than enough power to keep 3 laptop computers, satellite modem and wireless router running all day every day, and were very simple to install. They easily paid for themselves in the first month of operation since I didn't have to fire up the old gasoline generator once. My only complaint is with the customer service at Southwest Wind. The circuit board went out on a different Air X I own, so I ordered a replacement kit directly through them. They accidentally sent the wrong part, and unfortunately after 6 months and many phone calls I'm still waiting for them to send the right part, which of course they charged me for. One more try and I'm going to have to send the dispute to Mastercard to deal with.

These are great for a back up for your PV system, but they do not seem to be efficient as our PV's even though we do live in a windy area, but I would recomend for a back up.

We are very happy with the service in purchasing this product. The unit is easy to set up.The employees are ALL very helpful.
We would like to see a change in the blades, as so they would start nad hold in a breeze condition. We have had trouble with not starting or continueing to spin when the breeze cycles.

We are attempting to locate it in a more open area at this time.

Short tailed by Pentti Kivimäki

Easy to install. Works pretty well, but my opinion is that the tail is´too short. The wind turbine swing´s around its own vertical axel too easily.

Your going to get more daily power by spending the money on a small solar panel assuming you have a controller already.
Thought I would get a little more than 3 to 5A at the coast.
As the manual says, double the wind speed and your output goes up 8X. To put it another way, Lose wind speed and the output goes down by a factor of 8.
I am a heavy electrical user. 20 hrs/day. If I were charging my RV house batteries, it should work fine.
Now the good - It is FUN - I now can't wait for the wind..

Air 303/404 wind turbine by Don Madden

I have had both of these wind turbines over the years and have installed them for others.
One big problem is the blades do not hold up and start hitting the pole, which then shatter the blades. I have had one turbine that I had to replace blades every year for three years straight. At $98 a set it is not too cost effective. Others have went two years at most before I relpaced them. I now have another one on a customer that is out and I want Southwest to replace them and I get no reply. So when it comes to service these units dont hold your breath.
