Q. Can I extend the cable on this switch?
A. Yes. Most switches come with a cable that is about 10 feet long. You can extend the switch cable in most cases up to 2000 feet. But if you are going to extend the cable, you can only do it if you are using a control box, also known as a linear current booster. The reason for this is that with a control box the current in the electrical circuit from the solar array to the pump is not carried in the switch. In other words, the switch only sends a signal to the box, then the box will open or close the circuit. Without the box, the wire from the switch would be carrying the current (amps) of the electrical circuit, and the wire connected to the switch is too small to carry it, so you would get excessive power loss. You could also run the risk of burning up the wire and potentially causing a fire hazard. If you want to extend the cable more than 2000 feet, you might try a ball valve and a pressure switch. In that arrangement, you could avoid a wire run between the pump controller and the water tank.

This is a pump up style switch - this means the switch will turn on the electricity when the float is in the down position to pump the water level up. Remote shut-off of the pump when tank fills. Includes switch and float.

Float Switch Kit

A float switch is used to prevent overflow of your tank. This will stop the pump when the tank is full, then reset when the level drops. This conserves ground water, prevents overflow, and eliminates unnecessary pump wear. PS series Lorentz controllers allow the use of a small signal cable to a remote float switch, even if the tank is a long distance away.
