BADU TOP 12
Solar Operated Centrifugal Surface Pump
BADU TOP 12 (SunCentric P) uses solar-electric power to pump water. It is cost-effective for swimming pools, especially where utility rates (or daytime peak rates) are very high. A pool pump is often one of the largest electrical loads in a home. A solar pump is practical because the need for filtration is greatest during sunny weather. It is perfect for pumping with photovoltaic modules because the circulation requirement corresponds with solar intensity.
APPLICATIONS
BENEFITS
Components
Pump End (PE) BADU Top 12
• Monoblock-type pump with integrated strainer tank
• Bellow mechanical seal is mounted on a plastic shaft protected sleeve
• Motor/pump shaft has no contact with fluid
• Total electric separation
• Strainer capacity approx. 3 l
• Strainer basket mesh size approx. 3.2 x 2.6 mm
Controller PS600
• Controlling of the pump system and monitoring of the operating states
• Mounted at surface (no submerged electronic parts)
• Two control inputs for well probe (dry running protection), float or pressure switches, remote control etc.
• Automatic reset 20 minutes after well probe turns pump off
• Protected against reverse polarity, overload and high temperature
• Speed control, max. pump speed adjustable to reduce flow rate to approx.30 %
• Solar operation: integrated MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking)
• Battery operation: low voltage disconnect and restart after battery has recovered
• Max. efficiency 92 % (motor + controller)

Rules for energy-efficient pool pumping:
Swimming pool application requirements
Piping Low friction is critical to performance. 2” is preferable. Avoid sharp 90° bends, especially in 1.5” pipe.
Filter type There are three common types of filters: (1) CARTRIDGE filter is best. It works well at low and
variable flow rates, and has low pressure-drop, (2) SAND filter works well at low and variable flow rates, but check
the specifications for pump requirements for backwashing. The solar pump (by itself) may not produce sufficient
backwash. (3) DIATOMACIOUS EARTH (DE) filter does not work well below a specific pressure, and may not
function fully with a solar pump.
Automatic Pool Cleaners
This pump may not be adequate to operate a pool cleaner (pool sweep) that
depends on the filter pump. If a conventional pool pump is not installed as
a backup, a pool cleaner booster pump or a selfdriven cleaner can be used. This
pump will not operate an in-floor cleaner with pop-up jets.
Retrofiting an existing pool system
In a retrofit situation you may not have the opportunity to follow all of the
efficiency rules, but there is hope. If you feel that a reduced rate of flow
is acceptable, then the power requirement will be reduced drastically! This
easy example illustrates the principle-If the flow were to be reduced by 50%,
then the back pressure imposed on the pump will be reduced to only 25%.
Theoretically, the power required to pump 1/2 the flow
at 1/4 the pressure will be 1/8, or 12.5%! Using the same arithmetic, a more
reasonable flow reduction of 25% would reduce pressure drop to 56% and the power
requirement to 42%. If a pump is selected that is efficient at this reduced
range, then the theoretical saving can be realized. If the pump is more efficient
than the original pump, then the saving will be greater.
Supplemental methods of pool management
Modern pool technology provides methods of pool cleaning
using chemistry, electro-chemistry and robotic pool cleaners. These methods
can be used to reduce the filtration pumping requirement, thus allowing the
use of a lower rate of flow. Consult with an authority on pool sanitation to
learn how these methods can reduce pumping requirements without compromising
the safety of the pool.
Using a backup pump
It is easy to install this pump parallel
to an AC pump. The AC pump can serve as a backup or to supply additional flow
on cleaning day. Connect the pump intakes together. Install a low-resistance
check valve at each pump's outlet, then connect the check valve outlets together.
Either pump (or both) can be turned on, with no need to touch any valves.
Long-term economy
Solar pumping is a long-term investment. Most photovoltaic
solar modules have a 20 year warranty, and a life expectancy beyond 30 years.
The Lorentz BADU TOP 12 pump can also last that long. It will far outlast a
cheap AC pool pump because of its high industrial quality and lower rotational
speed
Manufacturer’s warranty
Pump, motor and controller is 2 years. It is the customer's responsibility
to determine suitability for any particular use.
