Advent Solar's unique cell design is known as Emitter-Wrap-Through. It’s an innovation that offers the potential for lower cost through simplified assembly, higher energy production, and the use of ultra-thin silicon wafers. Advent’s Emitter Wrap-Through Cell, unlike conventional cells with contacts on the front that inefficiently block sunlight, use laser-drilled holes to allow the electric power to flow to the back surface where the electric contacts carry the current away.

Back contact solar cells are more efficient primarily because they eliminate grid obscuration. They reduce assembly costs by eliminating the front-to-back connection step. And thanks to a more uniform appearance, they offer superior aesthetics.
