Solar PALS is short for Solar Power and Light Services. They specialize in quality cable assemblies for the Solar Energy market, but their cables can be used in any situation that calls for good, high capacity, flexible cabling at a reasonable price. Their cable assemblies are made in their own solar powered manufacturing facility from high quality UL listed components, assembled with the proper equipment. Their unique process ensures the highest conductivity and protection against corrosion. Solar PALS uses fine stranded, flexible "X-Flex" cable from Cobra Wire & Cable, Inc. to fabricate their assemblies. "X-Flex" cable meets or exceeds all test requirements called for by the Underwriters Laboratory and the National Electrical Code. X-Flex is UL listed as a THW cable suitable for NEC-compliant installations. It also has the necessary flame retardant and is suitable for use in conduits inside buildings. For more information about X-Flex cable see the PDF files below. Solar PALS terminal lugs are manufactured from electrolytic copper tube which has been annealed and electrolytically tin plated. Electrolytic copper is a highly conductive, refined grade of copper. During the refining process the non-conductive elements such as Selenium and Tellurium are removed. These lugs are more expensive and are of higher quality than less expensive cast copper or cast brass lugs. Years of field service have shown us that the main weak points in electrical installations are at the connections. All the steps in our manufacturing process address these weak points; we crimp with the proper tool, apply colloidal copper joint compound to the cable strands prior to crimping, use heavy-wall, adhesive-lined heat shrink and seal the lug inspection hole (if applicable).
Why do I need adaptor terminal lugs to connect flexible cable to set-screw terminals? The fine strands of flexible cable will not compress properly under the set screw and will loosen over time, this will cause resistance to increase which will cause overheating, damage to equipment and possible property damage. It is a code violation to connect flexible cable to mechanical set screw terminals unless the cable is properly terminated with an approved, compression type adaptor lug. For more information about this topic see the PDF files below. Cable assembly manufacturing is Solar PALS exclusive specialty and their focus is to make the best cables available. Ask for Solar PALS battery and inverter cables when purchasing your equipment and know that you're getting the best cables for your money. If you need help figuring out what guage cable you need for a particular application, try this handy Voltage Drop Calculator. You'll need to plug in a few details, like the length of the cable and the load the cable is expected to carry in amps. Don't give up! Call us, we'll help. |
