convert a lantern that has no electrical to solar lighting

On our cottage we have 3 lanterns about 18 inches long and about 6 inches wide at the widest part and narrow down a point at the bottom. The glassed in area is four sided and starts just below the widest part, it is for a candle but we would like to convert these lanterns to solar. There is a 4 sided little roof on the top of each one that we thought could take a small solar panel (like the small garden ones) and add lighting inside the glassed in areas.
But we know little about solar, don't know if this can even be done, or if there exists kits that can make this work, and if there are kits where would we find them???
Any ideas or direction would be greatly appreciated.
